Footwear Care by Rohan - Cleaning, Care & Conditioning, Waterproofing

When you have bought a new pair of shoes or boots, it is important that you look after them. By looking after your footwear from the beginning you will ensure they perform better and last for longer.

There are 3 main areas to think about when looking after your footwear: cleaning, care and conditioning, and waterproofing.

Full Grain Leather

(Full grain leather is the best cut of leather)

Cleaning

After use always rinse off mud and dirt with water. Remove any stubborn dirt with a sponge, damp cloth or brush, and use leather cleaner or leather shampoo to get the best result.

Dry your boots naturally over time in a cool, dry place with good air circulation. Never force dry your boots using heat, as this will damage the leather uppers.

Care and Conditioning

It is very important to nourish the leather, to keep it soft and supple, and to provide a long-lasting shine. A good shoe shine cloth is not only great for buffing your shoes, it also works wonders for the gentle application of shoe creams and conditioners.

Waterproofing

Regularly treat your boots or shoes with a suitable waterproofing treatment applicable to the type of boots you have.

Take care to apply treatments to tongues, D-rings and hooks. Do not over treat them as this can soften the leather and damage stitching.

Nubuck Leather & Suede

(Nubuck leather is full grain leather but lightly sanded to give a brushed effect)

Cleaning

Care and Conditioning

It is very important to care for Nubuck Leather. There are products available that protect, condition, and revive the colour of this special material.

The nap of Suede and Nubuck Leather needs to be brushed up frequently to preserve the unique look of the material. For oiled Nubuck use a conditioner that replaces the oil that wear takes out of the material.

Waterproofing

Waterproofing is particularly important for the preventive maintenance of this sensitive material.

Before you wear your Suede or Nubuck Shoes for the first time, treat them with a water and stain-repellant-spray specifically designed for this material. Repeat this process frequently to keep up the protective film.
