Our Freelance 18 is the definitive, technical shoulder bag for the seasoned, experienced traveller.

It’s been designed from the ground up to meet the needs of journalists, travelling professionals or, indeed, any independent traveller who likes to keep their papers, books and mobile devices safe, secure and close at hand.

Offering a generous capacity of 18 litres, the main compartment is sub-divided into two sections. The larger side is designed for your files or papers whilst the other side is intended to take a laptop – although there is deliberately no additional padding for this section. We figured most people have a special protective case for their laptop and this arrangement just makes the whole bag lighter and slightly more versatile.

On the inside, there’s a full-width zipped pocket with a depth of about 15cm, two smaller touch-and-close patch pockets and two pen slots. At one end, there’s a pleated, elasticated pocket designed to take a water bottle.

On the outside, but under the flap, is a wide zipped pocket with a depth of around 10cm. It’s the perfect, reassuringly secure, place for keeping your passport and travel documents.

The bag closes with a large flap which is secured with a pair of amazing whizzy magnetic fasteners – they offer all the security of buckles in combination with the easy access associated with Velcro-fastened straps. They’re a simple thing really – but they’re incredibly functional and a real pleasure to use.

At one end, there’s a dedicated mobile phone pocket which closes with a nice secure zip. At the opposite end, we’ve added an elastic mesh accessory pocket.

There’s a lightweight alloy handle with a high-friction coating and a fully-adjustable, comfortably padded shoulder strap with a high-friction panel to stop the bag slipping off your shoulder.

The outer fabric is Blockade™, our proprietary ripstop polyamide with a PU coating – it’s extremely tough, highly durable, water resistant and stain repellent. The Pacsil™ lining fabric is equally sophisticated – it’s a lightweight, siliconsised polyamide which is hard-wearing and water resistant.
