Men's Polo Plus

The polo shirt is a real classic and a mainstay of many travellers’ wardrobes.

And it’s no surprise. The polo shirt is that bit smarter than a T-shirt and more versatile. For example, there’s plenty of eating and drinking places where you’ll feel fine in a polo – but a bit below par in a scruffy T-shirt. In many ways a polo shirt is more practical too. The collar can be turned up to offer sun protection and some relief from rubbing camera straps - or unbuttoned to provide a bit of extra ventilation.

The big problem with the polo shirt, though, is the fabric. Even if you pay a lot of money for one with a polo pony or crocodile embroidered on the front, it’s going to be made from cotton – with all the functional limitations of this particular natural fibre.

We thought it might be time to take the classic polo shirt recipe – and add a bit of Rohan to the mixing bowl.

What we’ve done is take our knowledge of specialist outdoor performance fabrics and transform the potential of the polo into areas beyond the wildest imaginations of Rene, Ralph or anyone else.

Our Polo Plus is emphatically not made from cotton. It’s made from sophisticated jersey polyester with our advanced Dynamic Moisture Control™ finish.

It feels just like cotton but it’s lighter and far more durable. It’s easy to wash, by hand or in the machine, and will comfortably dry overnight. It never needs ironing. In fact, it never needs any sort of special treatment.

In use, it wicks sweat in a flash and dries on your back well before you might start to get that horrible ‘chilling’ feeling. In fact, performance-wise, it feels more like a technical outdoor base layer than anything else.

And that’s the big plus. You could wear it for dinner in the evening and (if you’re enjoying yourself properly) spill red wine all down the front. Rather than hand it over to the hotel laundry, just rinse it out in the sink and hang it out to dry on the balcony. The next morning, stick it on and take it out trekking. You could repeat this process for a year (the perfect life!) and the Polo Plus would still be going strong.

Unlike a cotton polo, it won’t fade, bag, rot, stain, crease, crumple, stretch out of shape or wear out before you’ve had your money’s worth. It just works. And keeps on working. Day after day, year after year.
