Men's Hilltop Jacket

Our Hilltop Jacket is a bit of an unusual design these days.

It’s a top-specification, longer-length waterproof designed to offer something that everyone who’s out and about in wet British weather needs most – extra protection.

For those with short memories, it used to be different. Longer length waterproofs used to be commonplace. But now, the vagaries of outdoor fashion and the desire for the ‘alpine look’, have made them harder and harder to find.

Outdoor ‘fashion’, however, is not really top of the agenda for our customers – or us. Our customers tend to know their own mind. They know what they need. And they’re not easily swayed by the vagaries of fashion. Which is why our Hilltop Jacket has been such a great seller.

Totally waterproof and highly breathable, it’s made from our very own, bepoke 2-layer Barricade™ fabric with our highly effective Durable Water Repellency™ finish. Barricade™ is a bit different from ordinary waterproof/breathables. It operates dynamically and responds to your body temperature and the humidity of the surrounding environment. We call it Active Diffusion™. Basically, the steamier it gets inside, the more vapour escapes – keeping you comfortable in a much wider range of conditions.

The new 2012 version of the Hilltop Jacket builds on the impressive foundations of the original version. We’ve specified a new lighter, softer fabric which achieves an impressive weight saving of around 15% - which is well worth having.

The Hilltop Jacket features deep, zipped hand pockets, a zipped internal pocket and a big map pocket. It’s just where it should be – under the storm flap but outside the main zip. And, as you’d expect, it swallows up the Guild of Pocket Designers’ number one worst nightmare – the British Ordnance Survey map.

The stiffened hood offers complete protection in a proper downpour and cinches, without fuss, with our neat One-Pull™ adjustment system. Fleece facings on the inside of the hood offer a bit of extra insulation for your ears. When not in use, it packs away into the collar for a smarter, everyday appearance – which is quite handy if you’re heading into town.

The Rohan Interchange™ system allows you to zip in any compatible mid-layer – turning the Hilltop Jacket into a warm, winter coat, that’s quick and convenient to put on or remove.

The waist adjusts with a draw-cord hidden inside the hand pockets – which means you can get the perfect fit and fine-tune the ventilation on the go.

The front opening features a double snap closure, so the jacket can be opened up from the hem, allowing a greater stride length. Particularly handy if you’re walking steeply uphill – which is, after all, where you’re most likely to be heading.

Barricade™ Washing Instructions

Rohan Barricade™ waterproofs are easy to care for. Simply machine wash them at 40°C with a regular detergent. We recommend a second rinse to remove all traces of the detergent from the fabric. Don’t use fabric softeners or bleaching agents. Garments may be drip dried. Over time, the water repellent treatment on the surface of the fabric may become less effective and water will stop beading up on the outside of the jacket. Tumble drying on a warm, not hot, setting or careful ironing on the coolest setting will rejuvenate the finish.
