It’s the definitive shell for the serious hill-walker and outdoor enthusiast. But, with its understated looks and no-nonsense style, it’s perfect for general use too. If you only want one waterproof jacket to cover all your needs, this is, without doubt, the one to go for.

It takes advantage of our advanced Barricade™ technology in a 2-layer construction with a rugged polyamide face fabric and a mesh liner. So it’s totally waterproof and, with our Active Diffusion™ technology, phenomenally breathable – even in challenging, relatively humid conditions.

And this new version takes advantage of an even lighter fabric to mean the whole jacket is around 10% lighter – with no substantive loss in durability or toughness.

The outer fabric has been treated with our 20 wash Durable Water Repellency™ finish to ensure that water beads up on the surface and the fabric never wets out. This is really important: breathable fabrics rely on a humidity differential to work. Moisture vapour transmission is highest when it’s warm and humid on the inside and cold and dry on the outside – if the surface of the fabric is wet, then breathability is inhibited. Our DWR™ treatment ensures that doesn’t happen.

The Mountain Guide features two big chest pockets which are mesh-lined to maximise breathability and are situated high enough to clear a rucksack hip belt. There are two internal pockets – both sensibly located underneath the storm-flaps but outside the main zip. The other is smaller and perfect for keeping your wallet or compass safe and secure – but close at hand.

The hood features our One-Pull™ adjustment system and offers an excellent fit and unimpeded visibility. The peak is stiffened and wired for extra protection. The whole thing rolls away neatly into the collar for a slightly smarter appearance. Which is quite handy if you’re planning a trip to town.

The jacket features our Interchange™ system which means that any compatible mid-layer can be zipped in – turning a shell into a winter coat.

Adjustable cuffs and drawcords at the hem allow you to fine-tune the fit and ventilate – or retain warmth – as conditions dictate.

Barricade™ Washing Instructions

Rohan Barricade™ waterproofs are easy to care for. Simply machine wash them at 40°C with a regular detergent. We recommend a second rinse to remove all traces of the detergent from the fabric. Don’t use fabric softeners or bleaching agents. Garments may be drip dried. Over time, the water repellent treatment on the surface of the fabric may become less effective and water will stop beading up on the outside of the jacket. Tumble drying on a warm, not hot, setting or careful ironing on the coolest setting will rejuvenate the finish.
