The no-compromise choice for active mountain sports.
The no-compromise choice for active mountain sports.
Designed for active outdoor sports, our Monte Rosa sunglasses are built to protect - and built to last.
They’re made from a extremely tough, virtually unbreakable, polyamide. It’s super light and has a shape ‘memory‘ - bend the arms outwards and they just snap back into the original shape.
The lenses are designed in a wrap-around style for a close fit which seals round the eyes and minimises light getting in ‘through the side door’. Not a major concern on your Sunday passeggiata - but pretty much essential when you’re out skiing all day in Spring.
The lenses are made from a durable polycarbonate which offers total, 100% protection from UV light, reducing short-term eye strain and long-term damage to the eyes. Needless to say, they meet all EU and US standards.
Light transmittance through the lens is 9% - which puts them right at the top of the Category 3 classification. Essentially, they’re a very dark lens that’s perfect for all day use in the mountains - but still suitable (and legal) for driving.
The visual definition through the lens is of the highest quality - described as Optical Class 1. Basically, they offer improved vision on hazy days. They’re also distortion free. It’s worth remembering that distortion through poorer quality lenses is not immediately noticeable but, over time, will cause eye strain, tiredness and even headaches.
The Monte Rosa lens is also polarising which improves visual clarity and reduces eye strain by removing the glare and visual impairment of scattered light. Keen photographers will be well aware of the effects of a polarising filter in terms of what you ‘see’ - but it’s equally important for anglers and drivers. The polarising lenses allows you to look into the water as the scattered surface reflections are filtered out. They also eliminate the reflections cast on the glass of a motor car’s windscreen.
The lenses have been designed to offer ballistics impact protection - which sounds like something Steven Seagal might wear on a ‘covert op’ but is actually very reassuring to have on a lens if you’re driving through the desert in an open-topped vehicle or bombing downhill on your bike.
All the lenses in the Rohan Optics range are oleophobic. Our oil resistant coating cannot eliminate smudging from suncreams or handling - but it does make the lens much easier to clean.
They are also hydrophobic. This is obviously of most benefit to water sports enthusiasts - but it’s also handy for cyclists.
Also standard on the Rohan Optics range is an anti-reflective coating - visible as a rainbow-tinted hue on the back of the lenses. This reduces scattered light, further improves visual clarity and helps the eyes to adjust more quickly from bright light to low light conditions.
The Monte Rosa sunglasses come complete with a good quality hard case, closed with YKK zips, which offers protection and impact resistance. Inside the case you’ll find a micro-fibre cleaning cloth to keep your lenses in tip-top condition.
