Taking advantage of a battery of advanced technology, the Rohan Expedition Shirt meets the challenges of the hottest, harshest and most humid conditions in the world.
It’s made from a supremely functional polyamide which combines a surprisingly light weight with reassuringly high levels of abrasion and tear resistance.
Our expedition-proven Dynamic Moisture Control™ treatment wicks moisture in a flash and ensures the shirt feels cool and comfortable next to your skin. Not such a big deal in Britain – but absolutely essential in the Tropics.
The shirt’s been treated with an advanced Healthguard™ finish which repels biting insects, reduces odour and inhibits the growth of mould in damp, warm conditions.
Washing the shirt is a simple matter of dunking it in a bucket of water and hanging it up from the nearest branch – clever Dry Loops™ in the hem mean you can leave the clothes pegs at home. And, if all you’ve got in your camp ‘laundry’ is a nail in the wall, you can just hang the shirt from the locker loop stitched into the collar. It’ll comfortably dry overnight and, needless to say, it doesn’t require any ironing.
The shirt features two big chest pockets which are secured with our Rollover™ closure system and touch-and-close fastenings. It’s a simple feature - but really nice to have. When you’ve been up-ended in a river crossing, the last thing you want to be worrying about is whether your penknife has slipped out the top of your pocket.
A secure pocket behind one of the chest pockets is closed with a robust, vertical zip. This is the place to keep items you really can’t afford to lose – such as your passport or winning lottery ticket.
The sleeves are fully adjustable for length and can be rolled up and held in place with adjuster tabs and buttons – giving you a choice between maximum cooling airflow or increased protection from biting insects.
We’ve taken just as much care with the construction of our Expedition Shirt as we have with the choice of fabric. All the main seams are triple-stitched for durability and the side and shoulder seams have been displaced to minimise rubbing. Nice to have all the time – but really useful if you’re wearing a rucksack.
The Rohan Expedition Shirt – in this and previous incarnations – has become the definitive adventurous travel shirt. It’s also the choice of many professionals working in difficult environments. Stephen Fry wore them in his series ‘Last Chance to See’, seeking out species on the brink of extinction with Mark Carwardine. It was also the choice of radio presenter Chris Moyles when he visited Uganda for ‘Comic Relief: The Net Result’, the follow up to his Mount Kilimanjaro trek earlier in the year. TV naturalist Nigel Marven is another fan. He’s worn Expedition Shirts for a number of series, including ‘Killer Whale Islands’ and ‘Penguin Safari.’
He’s also worn his Expedition Shirt in the rather less physically challenging conditions of ‘The One Show’ studio. Maybe he was worried about the heat of the television lights - needless to say he appeared cool, calm and assured throughout his grilling!
