Offering a range of storage option which could best be described as “extensive”, our Frontier Vest is a rugged and extremely practical vest for the adventurous traveller or outdoor professional.
There are two chest pockets, two hand pockets, four zipped security pockets and two waist pockets.
In short, there’s plenty of space for camera lenses, tools, torches, notebooks, fishing tackle or essential survival kit.
It’s made from a hardwearing, tear-resistant polyamide with our Durable Water Repellency™ finish. So, it tough enough for the demanding use – and it’ll shrug off the occasional shower.
The Frontier Vest – a place for everything and everything in its place.
Pack Size: 1,100ml
Drying Time: 4 hours
Pocket science at Rohan is all about precision and detail of design, but most of all, it’s about keeping your most important stuff safe at times when losing keys, passports and wallet is more than just an inconvenience. We use several different methods – whichever is the most appropriate. Some pockets are completely hidden with micro zips, some are touch and close with roll-over tops and some are high quality zips.
Our durable water resistant finish, which forces water droplets to ‘bead up’ and run off the outside of the jacket, is designed to remain at 80% efficiency – even after 20 washes.
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

I bought this about 2 yers ago as a replacement for my very old (15year+) Convey Vest (It was called something else back then). I change to the Frontier vest because of the full zip up to the neck. My main reason for using both of my vests is for travel. I loved my old Convey vest going through airports with its 3 vertical zip/hook and loop pockets for passport, cash , itinerary and tickets. For me having a vest with these pockets beats a bag anytime on the security front. The two chest pockets had hook and loop closures which could be fastened with 1 hand, would store my iPhone and glasses, one each pocket, easily.
However the Frontier Vest only has only 1 vertical zip pocket now. The chest pockets are so large that my glasses fall down to the bottom and get stuck. The opening to these pockets is so large and the hook and loop closure so small that my glasses occasionally fall out when I bend over. The require two hands to close these pockets and often look droopy and baggy with something in them. A really poor design in m opinion.
The very large side pockets are great for storing stuff and the hidden zippered being the hook and loop from pocket is also great. But the pockets are so high on the side that it requires one to dislocate the arm to get inside them easily and often requires me to use 2 hands, one to open the pocket and one to get inside it. The old equivalent tot he Convey Vest was much neater than this although the pockets were smaller. I notice the the new Convey vest has these same problems in its design.
I will buy another one unless the design changes and in fact I have stopped wearing my Frontier Vest for travel and reverted to a sling bag instead. It is not convenient fiddling around with pockets to get inside them when going through security with my hands full.
I am looking for an alternative from another source. The quality is great but fitness for my purpose is poor.
