Made from a high-quality, technical fleece with a wind-resistant lined front panel, our Bracken Jacket is perfect for outdoor use but, with its relaxed styling and understated good looks, it’s ideal for everyday use and travel wear too.

It features an attractive, knitted outer with an inner lining to the front body area keeping the wind at bay and retaining core temperature. It’s light, highly breathable and extremely packable and comes with a full-length front zip, two zipped hand pockets and a zipped chest pocket. We've given it an adjustable hem so you can fine tune the fit and retain body heat.

Team it up with one of our waterproof shells and it's ideal for walking, trekking and adventurous travel, but combine it with jeans or chinos and a polo shirt and you've got a stylish combo perfect for weekend casual use.

Lightweight - Weight: 535g

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.

Packable - Pack Size: 2250ml

Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.

Fast Drying - Drying Time: 12 hours
Fast Drying - Drying Time: 12 hours

All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Bracken Jacket - I am missing lined sleeves!

★★★★☆

I actually tried this on in the Long Preston shop not to buy but to see how the Ascent Jacket I was buying fit with a fleece underneath. The tighter sleeves meant it did fit nicely under a waterproof layer so I bought it as well. Unfortunately I had tried it on top of an office shirt, what I have since found is the lack of a lining in the sleeves makes it difficult to put on top of a base layer that is not smooth such as the Warm Zip, or Vital Snap Top which are still my go to layers after Kayaking. It doesn't quite fully replace the Rohan reversible fleeces I have worn (mainly smooth side in) for many years but have now been relegated to gardening/DIY wear.

Bracken Jacket

★★★★☆

My 2nd bracken jacket I have used a dark grey for some time, only problem has been tendency to fluff and needs occasional shaving to remove pill bobbling. Then as good as new.

New lighter grey jacket purchased in January 2020 sale fits perfectly sleeves are better, a perfect length, shoulders allow unrestricted movement. (size L 5'10" w34-36 c42)

In view of core wind protection ideal as a general jacket in Yorkshire / or early morning jeep safari Africa

Inside and outside pockets easily accommodate larger phone

Review of Bracken fleece

★★★☆☆

My mistake as bought it via home delivery. There is a lovely aromas shop relatively nearby but decided against ..... Christmas shoppers.... parking etc.

If I had gone to the shop would have moved from my usual medium and tried small.

I trusted Rohan sizing as have had no issues since the Howcroft days. Not again. Probably suitable for those with a generous waistline. Sleeves too long and I am reasonably tall...circa 6ft.

Rather dissapointed. Only positive is its warm and OK for winter dog walking but rather hangs on me so will not be used for local pub.

My advice...try it in a Rohan shop and try it on

I agree, the sleeves are too long

★★★★☆

I agree with the previous reviewer that the sleeves are too long. I ended up buying size S (which is tight in the body) but even that has very long sleeves.

I love Rohan products but I now only buy short sleeved shirts and trousers (which have short fitting options). I know that young people are taller now but if Rohan are going to size tops for taller and taller people, they will probably have to offer shorter options to avoid losing their core older customers.

Very disappointing!

★★★☆☆

I've bought two Brackens over the last year or so and they fit perfectly. One is in the original green colour, the other in black, so when I saw there was now a blue one, I had to have it. Unfortunately Rohan have tinkered with the sizing. The new small is about one inch longer overall, the sleeves are too long and the whole garment is generally larger. They've also changed the cuffs to make them looser. Since there's nothing smaller than a small, this is going straight back and I'll think twice before buying another top on-line.

Very disappointed by design changes

★★★☆☆

After 30 years hard service I needed to replace my Rohan fleece because the zip had broken. A performance that demonstrates the high quality of materials and workmanship. So a visit to the Tunbridge Wells shop where I received very helpful service to find a replacement. First the good news, the Bracken fleece is lighter but seems just as warm. Now the bad news. The design was so disappointing.

With the old fleece and all my other Rohan items what made them immediately stand out from the competition was the design. The old fleece had a large breast pocket, big enough to accommodate a full size wallet or a map comfortably, an internal pocket big enough for a book or I-pad mini, side pockets that you could keep your hands warm in without scraping on zips and a concealed zip pocket inside the right side pocket. This meant it was equally at home as a top layer or as an intermediate layer in the rain or real cold. In contrast the Bracken is just the same as most of the competition. The breast pocket is too small, will barely squeeze a full size wallet in. The internal pocket is gone. The side pockets are smaller and the zips make them less comfortable for keeping hands warm. So whilst the thinner and lighter construction makes the Bracken a better intermediate layer it is pretty useless as a top layer. Thankfully I have a Rohan MPV with 9 pockets that is light enough to be used as a top layer when it isn’t cold.

Quality rated 3 stars because materials and manufacture seem up to the high standards I expect from Rohan, will find out over the next 20 years.

Very useful Warmth

★★★★☆

Very easy to wear with just-about adequate pockets. The sleeves are far too long and I have turned back a "cuff" of over 3 inches (=75mm) to avoid overlap with my hands.
