Lightweight, compressible and warm, our Microgrid Stowaway Jacket is an incredibly efficient, lightweight fleece.Read more…
Our Microgrid Stowaway Jacket with its impressive warmth to weight ratio makes a fantastic mid-layer for the active outdoor enthusiast.
It takes advantage of our advanced Microgrid fleece, a fleece fabric which uses a sophisticated ‘needle-out’ knitting technique to create a grid pattern on the surface of the fabric. These grids give the jacket an attractive textured appearance but also enable the fabric to trap air – lots of it, and are the key to the jacket’s surprisingly high levels of warmth.
These perforations have other benefits too; they make the whole jacket lighter and make it much more packable. It’s also far more breathable, with all the same warmth as a much heavier, ordinary fleece.
Our Microgrid Stowaway Jacket is versatile, designed to maximize the properties of its remarkable material with its simple design and is perfect as a layering piece – both on the hill or around town.
It features two zipped hand pockets and a zipped chest pocket for convenient stowage. The raglan sleeve construction also reduces rubbing that can be caused when layering garments together, and the thumb holes on the sleeve make it really comfortable to wear and provide extra coverage.
One of our best selling products – the Microgrid Stoway Jacket is a firm favourite for those with an active lifestyle, performing excellently as a warm and comfortable mid-layer.
100% polyester microfleece.

Pocket science at Rohan is all about precision and detail of design, but most of all, it’s about keeping your most important stuff safe at times when losing keys, passports and wallet is more than just an inconvenience. We use several different methods – whichever is the most appropriate. Some pockets are completely hidden with micro zips, some are touch and close with roll-over tops and some are high quality zips.
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

I have owned Microgrid jackets since they were produced. In fact, as an owner of several Microgrid half zips, I suggested producing a full zip version and I am delighted that Rohan did just that. As other reviewers have said, I wear one every day and am pleased with the longer sleeves, which allow better hand coverage on colder days. Rohan may have slightly tweeted the design, but the product remains unsurpassed in its field.
I have several of these Microgrid Jackets in size large bought over the years, the latest (before this version) being a year ago. I was impressed with the attention to detail. The material and cut/sizing were perfect.
However, in comparison with this new version, Rohan have 'tinkered' with the design unnecessarily in my opinion. Yes, the zip pull cords are a nice addition but this feature and the blue colourway are the only positives.
What I don't like in this new version:
They are two inches too long, consequently they sit over the hands (to almost the knuckles) at rest.
No elastic around the cuffs. If there was, at least they could be pulled up to the wrist so they would stay in position without falling over your hands again.
The position of thumb loops have changed angle for no reason (and without the additional fabric detail to finish off the edges).
The material to cover the lower pocket zips is missing.
I would also like the addition of a hem drawcord on this jacket. I have the Microgrid gilet (bought 4-5 years ago) that has this feature but Rohan have discontinued manufacturing it.
I have half a dozen Microgrid stowaway jackets, and live in them most of the year. Recent editions have longer sleeves which I prefer as it enables the thumb holes to be used to help keep hands warm without restricting shoulder movement as with the old edition. After a couple of years of washing they do start to lose their looks. There are three useful pockets - I wish the side pocket on the opposite side to the chest pocket either wasn't sealed at the top on the inside or had an inside zip - so I could stuff my newspaper on the inside to save carrying it - a poacher's pocket -would be useful. Packs to the size of a bag of sugar in its own pocket. Easy to regulate temperature with zip and by pushing sleeves up.
I have had one of these for about a year and thought I would get another one. The new model - with raglan sleeves - has sleeves which are MUCH longer than the old jacket. A comment repeated by another customer for the Microgrid Zip pullover. The body is fine but the sleeves..........
I bought this as a lightweight mid-layer for travel. It offered good insulation while walking around a snow-bound resort. While flying, wearing it over a polo shirt provided the right temperature control (since you don't know if the airline plans to cook or chill you until you're airborne).
