Appearances can be deceptive.
Take our Equator Shirt for instance. To the casual observer, it's simply a great looking summer shirt, but look closer and you'll start to see the Rohan touch.
Notice the two chest pockets? It's no accident that they're large enough to swallow a passport, and fastened with zip closures to keep it, and other valuables, safe.
Take a look on the inside of the hem; you'll spot a rectangular panel of microfibre stitched to the fabric - it's a hidden wipe to help keep clean the specks off your specs. Neat huh?
You’ll notice that there aren’t any buttons. Our Equator shirts use lightweight popper fastenings for ease of use and a rugged, functional look.
The rear yoke is pleated for both comfort and freedom of movement, and we’ve also included Dryloops™ at the hem so you can hang the shirt out to dry without the need to pack clothes pegs on your travels.
However, it’s not just the physical attributes that prove this isn’t your average casual shirt. It's made from a technical fabric blend incorporating Dynamic Moisture Control™ for fast wicking and quicker drying.
And, if that wasn’t enough, it’s also been treated with Silvadur odour control technology. This clever, patented anti-microbial technology inhibits the growth of microorganisms and the associated build-up of odour – really useful when the going gets hot and sticky.
56% polyamide, 44% polyester.
Pack Size: 300ml
Drying Time: 3 hours
Keeping comfortable in the heat can be harder than keeping warm in the cold. Comfort strategies are limited. We choose the right weight of fabrics, employ Airflow™ weaves and use Dynamic Moisture Control™ technology.
We pioneered the testing of fabric for UV penetration in the UK over fifteen years ago. The health risks are now, of course, more widely recognised. All Rohan fabrics for hot weather, that carry the sun icon, are tested for their Ultraviolet Protection Factor and rated UPF 40+.
Pocket science at Rohan is all about precision and detail of design, but most of all, it’s about keeping your most important stuff safe at times when losing keys, passports and wallet is more than just an inconvenience. We use several different methods – whichever is the most appropriate. Some pockets are completely hidden with micro zips, some are touch and close with roll-over tops and some are high quality zips.
Tiny traces of silver are distributed evenly throughout the fibres of a garment. These inhibit the development of microbes that can grow exponentially in warm and damp areas, resulting in mould and odour. It is permanent, it will not wash out or wear out.
Our Dynamic Moisture Control™ finish is a permanent, wicking treatment that rapidly spreads moisture, such as sweat, over a wide surface area of the fabric. This ensures the garment dries more quickly and you stay more comfortable - even in the hottest and most humid conditions.
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

Bought this on the basis of the other reviews prior to a trip to the Far East. In the hot (35 - 39 deg C) humid conditions it seemed to promote over heating and I eventually abandoned it for some cooler multi fabric t-shirts. I was really disappointed with it, having bought it expressly for the trip and semi formal occasions with local friends. On return I asked my wife what she thought. She told me she had hated it from the day I first wore it as the check stood out a mile - I hadn't picked that up during the trip although I had felt a bit conspicuous several times wearing it. Essentially I think it was money I could have saved.
I recently bought a Newtown shirt on line in medium and it is a slim fit cut. So, I was on the point of buying this shirt in large , over the phone. I learned that my local store had a selection of sizes in stock. So, I visited and bought medium. The cut is perfect. I am a 40 chest.
The short sleeve Equator Shirt is probably Rohan’s most impressive multi-functional shirt. It performs best in hot and humid conditions such as South East Asia. The Dynamic Moisture Control means you never feel too hot, and the Silvadur odour control technology helps to keep odours which can build up in the heat to a minimum – so you can wear it all day in the hottest of temperatures without worrying too much about how you smell.
Weighing just over 150g with a mix of polyamide and polyester, this shirt can be washed and dried in a couple of hours. And literally no ironing is required – take it straight from your suitcase or rucksack and there are no creases whatsoever. With two zipped chest pockets, there is ample room for storing items safely. And there are popper fastenings instead of buttons – a practical and functional design that makes it very quick and easy to put on and take off.
This shirt really is multi-functional – it can be worn at the beach, for island boat trips, a day of city sightseeing, or an evening in a restaurant or theatre. If you took three or four Equator Shirts on a travel trip to a hot and humid location, you would have covered all the bases.
The durability and longevity of this shirt is incredible. I have more than ten short sleeve Equator Shirts, and they still look relatively new after many years of regular use. There have been many different colours and patterns over the years – a lot of variety to choose from.
This is definitely my go-to shirt for hot and humid conditions. A magical shirt in every way!!
I now have several of these over the years. My go to hot weather shirt when we go to Asia from UK. The combination of fabric, drying ability, and coping with western perspiration makes life bearable when 35+ degrees. Lightweight and roll easily into packing cube. They have kept size and shape through several laundries in several countries. Pockets big enough for larger iPhone and even a kindle make them handy on flights.
Yet again another Rohan product that’s true to size, wears, washes and dries well.
