It’s made from our advanced Thermocore™ fabric which looks and feels just like brushed cotton flannel. But in fact, it’s a functional hollow-core polyester that traps warm air just like fleece would, making it far warmer than cotton. And with a Dynamic Moisture Control™ finish, you won’t get any uncomfortable wet or cold patches so it’s incredibly comfortable whether you’re out hiking or strolling around town.
The Kielder Shirt is very lightweight and has a good pack size so it’s perfect for taking with you on your next cold-weather adventure. The cut is relaxed with a slightly looser fit, so it’ll work just as well undone over a T-shirt as it would done up as a layering piece under a jumper. This versatility means you can mix and match with a range of items – great if you want to travel hand luggage.
There are two large chest pockets, one with a button closure and one which is zipped to help keep things like your cardholder or phone nice and safe.
Because it’s a Rohan shirt, caring for this garment couldn’t be easier. Quick drying and crease resistant, you can put it on a quick spin or even wash by hand, and it’ll bounce back the next day, ready for more adventures.
Make sure the Kielder Shirt is on your cold-weather holiday packing list. With fantastic warmth to weight ratio and a stylish versatile design, it’s a must for the adventurous who like to travel light.
Fabric:
Thermocore™ 100% polyester
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Taking its inspiration from the composition of reindeer fur, our Thermocore™ fabric is made from polyester filaments – with a hollow core. And it’s this hollow core that’s the secret to Thermocore’s incredible insulating properties. Dry air has a tiny thermal conductivity – 24 times less than water – and our Thermocore™ fabric simply traps more of it than an ordinary, solid fibre. And if it’s good enough for reindeer…
DMC™ is a wicking treatment that rapidly spreads the moisture our bodies create across the surface area of a garment. This can be achieved through the technical construction of the garment or by a performance coating and ensures that the garment dries more quickly, encourages evaporative heat loss and helps you stay cooler and more comfortable for longer.

The shirt is comfortable, warm, well-made (very solid button attachments!), and packable. My only concern is that I had to exahnge it for a smaller size: I usually wear a Medium, but the Medium was way too large - the Small fits perfectly. It's also kind of expensive =- it will be worth it if it lasts for a long time!
I have an earlier version of the Kielder Shirt and have now bought a second shirt. It’s a looser fit than the Dalby shirt to have room to wear a vest in colder weather, so far a vest not required.
When using the shirt under a waterproof jacket and carrying a rucksack I don’t have the cold wet back sensation after removing my rucksack for a break on a walk.
I have an earlier version of the Kielder Shirt and have bought a second. It seems to be a slightly thicker material than the similar Dalby shirt.
I have just bought my third Keilder, which is my go to shirt every day now the nights are drawing in. It is a step up in warmth from my previous Bridgeport check shirts, which are more Spring time weight. The Keilder is an ideal travel shirt - if we are ever allowed travel again - as it has two breast pockets, perfect for passport and boarding card in one, facemask in the other (practicalities matter) and a slot for a pen.
The buttons are fixed on a ribbon, super-secure, wrist/cuff has option of two tightness fittings, typical Rohan attention to detail. The fit is comfortable, not too tight, and looks good tails tucked in or worn out. The mix of colours in the pattern ensure co-ordination with a wide choice of Rohan jackets and trousers.
Drying time is super-fast, and no, you don't need to iron it, shapes up perfectly on a hanger. When they bring out another pattern I will be first in the queue. It seems expensive, but worn everyday makes it great value cost-per-wear, which is how you should judge value.
I like the robust and quality feel of the shirt. I expect it will last years.
Took receipt of my new Kielder shirt about 4 hours ago. Nice shirt which adds to the many Rohan shirts already in my wardrobe. But one thing is bugging me; what is the difference between the new Kielder shirt and the three Crosscheck shirts I already have? OK the check colour is different but from my quick comparison everything else is the same! I am not complaining just making an observation. If anyone likes their Crosscheck shirt then buying a Kielder shirt is a no brainer!
Bought two Kielder shirts for my husband. They look good on him but I am disappointed that they really do need ironing whereas his previous Sentinel shirts didn't.
Another shirt for my Rohan collection. Yet there is something very different about this shirt. The buttons are not conventionally attached and there are no spare buttons fixed to the internal labels. If a button breaks what are you supposed to do? As they are on a tape. What is the procedure?
All 8 of my other shirts are conventionally buttoned!
I have worn Rohan Bags since the 1970's, but had not bought a Rohan shirt until this past fall. Instead of the usual flannel, I decided this winter to try a Rohan Kielder shirt. It is warm for outdoors use (I live in Maine, where winter goes from October to May) and very comfortable for casual or indoor wear. I wear it when walking, when working outdoors (I heat largely with wood), and for general everyday winter use. I just bought another one (different pattern), as I m basically wearing it on a daily basis and fear others might be tiring of me in it. Great value (although Rohan products in general are quite pricey for my budget and situation), great practicality, and great comfort.
