Designed for warm-weather travel, our multi-pocketed Bag Shorts are lightweight, quick drying and great to wear in even in the hottest and most humid conditions.
Read more…Based on the design of our iconic Bags, the Bag Shorts feature the same tried-and-tested Airlight fabric.
Airlight was a revolutionary fabric designed to be tough, lightweight and wind-resistant. It makes the Bag Shorts a great choice for trekking and summer hillwalking.
The Bag Shorts have the same excellent pocket configuration as the Bags as well. They have four zipped security pockets, plus two large hand pockets, reinforced seat and, of course, our trademark accessory D-ring.
Highly packable and very easy to care for, these shorts are perfect for taking on multi-day hikes and for hot-weather travel.
5" inside leg.
Fabric:
Rohan Airlight™ (48% cotton, 52% polyester).
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.
Originally introduced in 1983, Airlight™ is the fabric that revolutionized travel clothing: it’s a classic, perfectly-balanced fusion of cotton and polyester. Lightweight, hardwearing, wind resistant, breathable and compressible, it’s easy to wash, very quick drying and feels wonderfully cool and comfortable next to the skin.

Ever since Rohan set up company many years ago I have been wearing their gear. Some have stood the test of time and become a firm favourite. This definately goes for the Bags Shorts, just purchased my 6th pair (alas before the sale!). Light, tough, packable and most importantly a true short length, leaving plenty of room to get a tan in the summer! Rohan, please don't change the length of these, so many so called walking shorts these days resemble cut off trousers and are far too long.
I like them especially as having short legs most reach my knees and these are just right in length.
Good pockets, light and
I have bought 32" waist for decades and these are somewhat on the tight side but decided to keep them rather than go for 34".
Ideal for travelling, with secure pockets that keep passport, wallet, phone, tickets etc. safe.
Also used for much long-distance walking/camping in the Alps and Auvergne. Lightweight, hard wearing and quick drying.
The Bags Shorts have a 5 inch inside leg – possibly too short for some people, but I like this length. For a longer length, the Savannah Shorts are a similar product but have an 8.5 inch inside leg.
The Bags Shorts have two hand pockets and four zipped security pockets – many items can be stored safely. Plus there is an accessory D-ring so keys or other valuables can be attached.
These shorts do not crease at all, and only take an hour or so to dry after washing. As a result, they are very useful for hiking and trekking when a quick turnaround of clothes is required.
The material is a mixture of cotton and polyester, making these shorts very breathable – effective in tropical climates such as South East Asia. And they are very tough and strong – no damage done even when caught on trees or rocks.
I have recently purchased my first pair of these shorts – I will definitely buy another pair soon.
This latest two pairs in pimento and ink are but the latest in a long line of Bags Shorts that I have been pleased to own. I was delighted when Bags Shorts reappeared a few years ago as I had worn several pairs of the original, shorter version. I still have these pairs and hope one day to be slim enough to fit into them again. Bags Shorts are hard-wearing, nicely cut and have lots of useful pockets, without ever looking like cargo shorts. The material is supremely comfortable and very quick-drying. One tiny quibble - I find the horizontal zip on the front pockets sometimes jams at the fully open position.
Not sure how many pairs of bags shorts I've had now. Still have some rather old ones, and still the best all-round shorts that Rohan make. Shorts that are - well, actually - shortish rather than near-knee length. They allow complete freedom of movement when walking up and down mountains, and fine around town too. And the pimento orange colour is superb!
