Offering pockets, stretch and reinforced durability in all the right places, the Fjell Trousers are our most technical winter hiking trousers.
Read more…Engineered in such a way that each panel has been designed with the end use in mind, the Fjell Trousers are made for active outdoor use and based on the needs of mountaineers, hikers and explorers.
The trousers have been created with our hard-wearing Multiflex™ four way stretch fabric, which along with the built-in bend at the knee, gives them a perfect fit and makes them incredibly comfortable to wear, day after day.
The knees, rear panel and hem have all been created with a high abrasion resistant, stretch fabric. In lab testing this exceeded 40,000 rubs – that will certainly allow for plenty of clambering and scrambling over rocky, rough surfaces. The two way stretch also allows for natural movement of the body whilst walking and trekking. The rear panel stretches horizontally, whilst the knee panels stretches vertically.
There are a total of three secure zipped pockets all made with reinforced mesh, placed in highly convenient locations to suit a variety of needs. The two thigh pockets make accessing essentials a breeze when wearing a long jacket or coat, and they’re big enough to fit OS Maps. There’s also two drop in hand pockets on the waist, one zipped rear pocket and our trademark D-Ring on the belt loop.
The hems of the trousers have been designed with an expansion gusset; simply unzip to widen the lower leg to fit over bulky hiking boots or shoes. They’ve also been finished with extra reinforced anti-scuff tape ensuring longevity.
The polyamide, elastane blend of the Fjell Trousers make them incredibly durable, super stretchy and very comfortable, and the Durable Water Repellency™ finish they offer reassuring protection in light showers.
The only choice for intense trekking and hiking. The clever engineering of the Fjell Trousers make them supremely hard-wearing and comfortable ensuring unimpeded movement and long-lasting performance.
Engineered in such a way that each panel has been designed with the end use in mind, the Fjell Trousers – awarded Trail Magazine ‘Best in Test’ - are made for active outdoor use and based on the needs of mountaineers, hikers and explorers.

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Our DWR ™ finish is an advanced treatment which dramatically increases the water repellency of our fabrics. On its own, it offers a useful level of shower resistance; used in conjunction with our Barricade™ technology, it reduces the tendency of the face fabric to wet out and maximizes breathability.
Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

I wore these snowshoeing at -6C (21F) just to see how it would be. It was a calm sunny day with about 1/2 meter of fresh powder, but usually I would wear my ski pants or a pair of winter sport tights. After 3 hours, I was still warm, dry, and comfortable. I never expected them to perform so well in such a demanding application.
They fit to size and I haven't spotted any manufacturing issues.
These are great trousers for winter hiking, I like the multiple front leg pockets, narrow ankles and the 2 deep front pockets.
Originally ordered short 32" waist, as I wear 32" stretch bags, but returned to have short 30" waist instead, now a perfect fit.
As stated by other reviewer, I don't understand why the knees are only single thickness but not caused any problems.
Got these as a replacement for a faulty pair of summit trousers (very unusual for Rohan and superb customer service) which I loved, but these are even better. Haven’t had chance to wear them on the hill yet, but I have walked a few hundred miles around town in all kinds of weather and they’ve been outstanding. Really comfortable and rugged, good pockets and surprisingly warm enough on UK winter days (also in resort in the Alps) but they aren’t too warm like the winter jeans/winter fusion trousers which are too warm to wear inside. I’ve been out some fairly windy days and they’ve felt fine, and the DWR is ok for a fine drizzle but anything heavier (even moderate rain) and it wets out within 5-10mins and the trousers get wet. They do, however dry out astonishingly fast for such a thick trouser though. They are now my first choice for general winter wear or if I’m doing anything ‘rugged’ outside like bushcraft, gardening, scrambling etc or walking on clear days. For general walking though where there’s not much chance of damaging your trousers I’d still use my Dry Requisites which are excellent and fully waterproof
I have two pairs of these Fjell trousers which i’ve swapped week by week for two months now. The fit is superb and with a choice of leg lengths you can get close to ideal. The material seems durable and certainly warm enough even at 1°C on the moor. Two downsides for me:-
1. The DWR coating didn’t last long.
2. I’d like a thicker material on the inside of the pockets. When I put my keys in my pocket I get a really cold “hit” against my thigh!
A 5 star product. Just what I expect from Rohan
These trousers are truly awesome, how I wish for a wide range of colours as would certainly buy several pairs
Lovely fit and stretch, at the moment I don’t want to wear any alternative.
Well done Rohan, a truly inspirational product..... more colour ways please
I wore my new Fjell trousers on the hill yesterday for the first time.
Great fit, great comments from my mates and really comfi’.
There was a really cold strong wind and the trousers were warm and super wind proof-except for the knees!!
The stretchy knee fabric just does not have the same protection as the rest of these otherwise brilliant trousers.
This is the first criticism I have ever had for the many, many Rohan products I own. Shame!
Having been a keen walker for over 40 years I can say with confidence that these are the best trousers I’ve ever used out on the hills. They are definitely made for autumn/winter/spring days; there is plenty stretch in the material which makes them really comfortable for scrambling. I’ve not tried them on a wet day yet, but look forward to rain/snow to complete my test.
