Our Fall Line Jacket is a heavy duty, but surprisingly lightweight, wadded waterproof, giving you protection from the wind, rain and cold.Read more…
Top to bottom, inside and out – there are so many features that’ll make this your new go-to winter waterproof, it’s hard to know where to begin.
Firstly, the outer is made from 100% polyamide with our Barricade™ waterproof technology and fully taped seams. This combination provides a dependable barrier from the wind and will keep you dry in even the wettest of weather.
The fixed, wadded hood provides excellent coverage. It also has a stiffened and wired peak to help you direction it against the elements, and the toggles can be drawn in for extra warmth.
The two external hand pockets are positioned higher up the body so that you can still access the contents when you’re wearing a backpack with a waist strap. Both pockets are zipped and covered by a waterproof flap to keep your valuables in, and unwanted water out. There are also two additional drop in chest pockets with a concealed hook and loop fastening.
The sleeve cuffs and waist are also adjustable to help you fine tune the fit and keep that all important warmth trapped in the jacket.
The filling is Insuloft™, our superbly efficient synthetic insulation. Pound for pound, it’s almost as effective as natural down. Unlike natural down, however, it doesn’t lose its warmth the minute it gets wet, so it’s absolutely perfect for active wear, or the damp, cold conditions that are the hallmarks of the British winter.
Two zipped internal pockets give you plenty of space for a folded map and your mobile devices. One of the pockets also doubles as a Packpocket™ so you can stow it away when not in use.
Finally, the Fall Line is extremely easy to wash and will dry very quickly – it certainly doesn’t require any sort of special treatment, protection or extra care – which is very reassuring if you’re on an extended trekking trip.
Our barricade™ waterproof technology achieves an initial Hydrostatic Head (waterproofness rating) of 20,000 and a Moisture Vapour Transmission rating for breathability of 20,000 g/m2/24h - a very balanced position.
A further Durable Water Repellency™ finish boosts water repellency of the fabric surface and maintains 80% of its effectiveness after twenty washes.
A sound choice for complete waterproof protection and good breathability for active outdoor use - but where the very lowest weight and smallest pack size is not critical. Polyamide options offer durability and abrasion resistance.
The Durable Water Repellency™ treated, water repellent face fabric and the waterproof-breathable membrane are bonded together. A loose lining protects the membrane and wicks away moisture.
Caring for your Rohan Barricade™ waterproof will improve its performance and longevity. Simply machine wash your item at 30C with a gentle non-biological, liquid detergent. We recommend a second rinse to remove all traces of detergent from the fabric. Don’t use fabric conditioners, dryer sheets, stain removers or bleaching agents as these can impair the fabric performance. Garments may be drip dried. To rejuvenate the finish tumble dry your waterproof on the coolest setting, ensuring it is fully dry to complete the process.
Your Barricade™ waterproof has a Durable Water Repellency finish on the surface of the fabric. Over time, with wear and exposure to the environment, this can degrade, stopping water beading up on the surface of the jacket. Cleaning your waterproof will help maintain the finish. If necessary a re-proofing product, such as Grangers Clothing Wash + Repel, may be used to restore the DWR. This can be used in your wash cycle and is activated by a cool tumble dry.

Wet clothing transmits body heat nearly twenty-five times faster than dry. All clothing with this symbol is guaranteed to be totally waterproof. And highly breathable membrane technology means that you won’t get wet from inside either.
We pioneered the testing of fabric for UV penetration in the UK over fifteen years ago. The health risks are now, of course, more widely recognised. All Rohan fabrics for hot weather, that carry the sun icon, are tested for their Ultraviolet Protection Factor and rated either High (20+) or Total (40+).
We use man-made technical insulation that offers high levels of thermal efficiency, quick dry times and minimum bulk. We also use the finest goose down for the coldest environments. All materials for cold weather, that carry the warmth icon, are rated Base, Mid, High or Extreme allowing you to select what you need with accuracy.
Pocket science at Rohan is all about precision and detail of design, but most of all, it’s about keeping your most important stuff safe at times when losing keys, passports and wallet is more than just an inconvenience. We use several different methods – whichever is the most appropriate. Some pockets are completely hidden with micro zips, some are touch and close with roll-over tops and some are high quality zips.
Good design is more often about what to take off than what to put on. And clever design is about giving one feature two functions, that’s why many Rohan garments feature an internal mesh stretch pocket that doubles as a Packpocket™ for easy storage.
Conventional waterproof fabrics cannot adapt to the changing weather outside and the changing micro-climate inside. Barricade™ is different, it is dynamic and responds to your body temperature and the humidity of the surrounding environment. The sweatier and steamier things get inside, the better the membrane works and the more vapour escapes.
With a better warmth to weight ratio than fleece and far better performance when wet than down, Insuloft™ is the most practical and thermally efficient insulator available. It is an advanced synthetic that is tough, lightweight, packable, fast drying and easy to wash.
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

Purchased to replace a Rohan Mountain Guide Jacket (worn with an Inner Flame insulated jacket (which after years of wear is still in very good condition).
When I first tried on my new Fall Line jacket, my initial feeling was that the large size was much too big! However, I was just wearing a t shirt. It felt a much better fit when the waist toggles were very slightly tightened/adjusted and worn with a lightweight fleece (underneath) which I presume would be the norm during the winter months. I recently purchased a Rohan Ice Pack jacket, which also fits perfectly underneath the Fall Line Jacket for even more insulation during the coldest winter days. The hood is fully adjustable for a perfect and comfortable fit. To sum up, another lightweight, warm and smart winter coat from Rohan. I’ve been buying Rohan products for years and hope I will continue to do so for years to come.
