Ultra-lightweight jacket with high specification technical fabric that performs excellently as a warm and supremely comfortable mid-layer.
Read more…We’ve been using Microgrid fabric since the turn of the century, approaching half a million sales since its launch. Now with added stretch, for greater freedom of movement.
Designed using advanced Microgrid fleece, a soft, brushed polyester fabric which uses a sophisticated ‘needle-out’ knitting technique to create a grid pattern on the surface of the fabric. These grids give the jacket an attractive textured appearance whilst enabling the fabric to trap air - this is the key to the jacket’s surprisingly high levels of warmth, while still remaining incredibly lightweight and packable.
It’s also breathable and naturally high wicking, allowing the garment to management moisture, keeping you cool and comfortable with all the same warmth as a much heavier, ordinary fleece.
This remarkable material maximises the properties of its stretch for supreme comfort, fit and freedom of movement without restriction. The sleeve cuffs also have thumbholes, which provide additional warmth, comfort and protection.
It features three zipped pockets for security of valuables, one of which doubles up as a Packpocket™ for convenient storage. With mesh lining that can also double as a vent when the pocket is left open, perfect for active outdoor enthusiasts. Layer up under a waterproof or windproof outer layer or perfect on its own as a fleece jacket.
Fabric:
100% Polyester Microfleece with micro grid structure
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Clever design is more often than not about what to take off rather than what to put on. It’s about giving one feature multiple functions. That’s why many of our garments feature a Packpocket™. This handy addition converts pockets into space-saving storage by compressing the garment into itself. You could use it as a travel pillow when it’s all packed down too.
Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Like many of the reviews on this "updated" garment I find the new product an extremely poor imitation. The previous style of fleece was a resounding success but the stretch product feels a backward step in so many ways - the base material, the mesh pockets, the repositioning of the outer breast pocket, the change of style from the original raglan sleeve.
Despite existing reviews I still went ahead and ordered the new style but can only accord with others and be disappointed with the product. The fleece was returned easily with the pre-paid label. I have many items from Rohan and sadly this is the first disappointment. Please rethink your strategy on this fleece and consider reverting back to your very successful original
I have worn these for the last 5 or so years and they were perfect for almost everyday of the year. However, my last one bought a few months ago has sleeves that are too long and the fabric doesn't feel the same. Should have tried it on earlier so I could have returned it! Was going to buy a new one now but no indication of sleeve length and with no outside chest pocket for mask will probably go elsewhere for my light fleece.
I have 6 of these jackets brought in past years, but I won’t be getting one this year. The chest pocket shrinking was not good, but deleting it totally is a bad decision I think. It is needed for your phone, tickets, or even to carry a face mask: anything you need to keep secure yet easy to access.
One of the founding principles if Rohan design was many secure pockets. This seems to have been forgotten.
What happened to the raglan shoulders of the last collection? I was logging on to buy another but I see you have stopped producing them already...
Oh Rohan - first the sleeves were too long and now you've done away with the front chest zip pocket.
Please put it back it is ideal for the phone !
I've just taken delivery of a new stretch microgrid jacket. I've had two Microgrid Stowaway Fleece Jackets for 6-7 years. They were excellent.
First impression of the new one is that the material is much lighter and thinner than the old. I don't know whether this is a conscious design aim, or that it is just a lower quality material. Time will tell. Not fair to test it outdoors in today's sub-zero conditions. I'll keep it as there is a place for light fleeces too.
Sleeves seem to be back to 'normal' lengths. Unlike the Bracken jacket I got a couple of years ago which were very long!
This looks like the same Microgrid jacket of many year, and maintaining external pockets. I’ve worn them nearly 365 days per year - highly practical, both cool summers and as a winter layer. I wonder if the sleeves have been shortened a little. Some people remarked recently that the sleeves had been made overlong. I note the price increase. You are certainly seem to be stretching it.
