As the fabric is coated with our specially developed Durable Water Repellency finish (DWR), which forces water droplets to bead up and run off the outside of the jacket. The DWR finish boosts the fabric's water repellency whilst maintaining its effectiveness.
For further protection from the elements, you can fine tune the fit, thanks to the fixed hood with adjustable points, plus adjustable hem and cuffs. The stretch also allows for better freedom of movement, while the engineered panelling provides added functionality and durability for those more challenging hikes.
Fjell delivers zipped up protection that never feels restrictive. Four zipped pockets come as standard with the Fjell Jacket, two on the chest and two near the waist, so you can comfortably carry your adventuring essentials, such as an OS Maps. They're also strategically placed for easy access while wearing a rucksack.
The Fjell Jacket is perfect for combining with a fleece or waterproof as part of our ready-for-anything layering system. Why not try it for yourself?

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Our DWR finish is an advanced treatment which dramatically increases the water repellency of our fabrics. On its own, it offers a useful level of shower resistance; used in conjunction with our Barricade technology, it reduces the tendency of the face fabric to wet out and maximizes breathability.
Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Many years ago I had a Rohan Pampas jacket which I used constantly until it finally wore out. For me the Fjell Jacket is a worthy successor. I rarely write reviews but I feel this product deserves it. It is heavier than some soft shells so probably more for autumn and spring use than summer, albeit who knows what the British weather will bring. So far I’ve found it very comfortable and I’ve worn it almost every day since I purchased it. It has four useful pockets but if there could be an an improvement it would be an additional internal zipped pocket for valuables.
This is a comfortable, 'go-to' jacket that covers most bases - good to wear out for a walk, as well as around town. DWR is good, making it shower-proof,. The jacket adds warmth when worn over a fleece, jumper etc. I also use it as a mid-layer underneath a Gore-tex shell, and works well for that too. Stretchy fabric that breathes well. I'm 6'2", slim / athletic build and size medium fits really well - not baggy but plenty of room to layer underneath plus fits tightly enough to layer over the top too. Pockets are deep enough to hold phone, wallet, map etc. I would say that it is not likely to be the most effective in very cold conditions, but works well in cooler weather.
This is a very comfortable jacket for cooler conditions, worn over one of Rohan's light fleece shirts. The breathability is good and the cut is quite generous without being baggy. The hood can be drawn in to really protect your face, and the pockets are spot on, with plenty of space for wallets, phones etc when the jacket in everyday wear mode.
The durable water repellency has been very impressive so far; it almost acts like a waterproof even in quite heavy rain. I'm pretty confident it will work well all winter, maybe with an extra layer under it.
My only real concern is that the zips don't feel to be of high quality. They lack the solid feel and smooth action of YKK zips, for exmple. I'm sure some of my older Rohan clothing had these as standard, and I don't think the change is a positive one.
