The Full Story+

The Men's Helios Jacket makes light work of the British weather as it comes as a part of our ready-for-anything layering system for when the weather changes, you're ready to quickly add or shed another layer.

Designed to protect you from the harshest of wintry winds and showers. The tough ripstop outer is made from recycled polyester and coated in our innovative Durable Water Repellency finish (DWR), for added rain protection. Our specially developed DWR forces water droplets to bead up and run off the outside of the Jacket. The DWR finish boosts the fabric's water repellency whilst maintaining its effectiveness.

While the outer keeps you dry, the inner Insuloft R-XE insulation keeps you warm. Just like our original Insuloft insulation, Insuloft R-XE is low in bulk, soft yet dense and, unlike natural down, it doesn't lose its warmth when wet. Where this new addition to the family differs – as the full name suggests (Recycled eXtra-Efficiency) – is that it's made from 100% recycled polyester fibre, making it kinder for the planet as well as your comfort levels.

Lightweight and water resistant, the Helios Jacket offers you the highest warmth to weight ratio as it includes body mapping innovation. Which places insulation in the key areas where it's needed most. Keep even more heat in and cold out by simply tightening the single point adjustment at that back of the fixed hood or elastic at the front of the snorkel shaped collar.

What's more, it comes with two zipped waist pockets large enough to hold those bigger items and an internal zipped pocket that also doubles up as a PackPocket, so it can be compressed down and easily stored away.

Lightweight - Weight: 435g

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.

Packable - Pack Size: 1600ml

Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.

Fast Drying - Drying Time: 9 hours
Fast Drying - Drying Time: 9 hours

All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

Durable Water Repellency

Our DWR finish is an advanced treatment which dramatically increases the water repellency of our fabrics. On its own, it offers a useful level of shower resistance; used in conjunction with our Barricade technology, it reduces the tendency of the face fabric to wet out and maximizes breathability.

Packpocket™

Clever design is more often than not about what to take off rather than what to put on. It’s about giving one feature multiple functions. That’s why many of our garments feature a Packpocket™. This handy addition converts pockets into space-saving storage by compressing the garment into itself. You could use it as a travel pillow when it’s all packed down too.

3 Secure Pockets

Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Best ever midlayer

★★★★★

This is the best jacket I have ever owned. It is thoughtfully designed for comfort. Light but with neck and wrist features that mean absolute comfort and warmth with the ability to loosen and cool off in comfort. Windproof and water-resistant it packs really light into the pack pocket, great for when you don't have a rucsac. Or when you do. Insulation is good for weight. The only drawback is that I feel it is a bit vulnerable to thorns, but so far it has remained intact and it is inevitable if you want lightness. Even having bought it at full price, I feel it is good value. In the sale it is a steal!

A well made parcel of warmth

★★★★★

I use this mainly as a jacket for stopping on a cold day, snack breaks, waiting about for some reason, taking notes etc. It packs down small enough and weighs little enough that it's not much of a burden to pack and it 's warm enough to keep the shivers at bay on cool and/or windy days. For sub-zero I'd use a downie, but this is fine at a few degrees above and unlike down you don't need to worry so much about it getting damp (and the DWR coat is effective for if it is a bit dreich).

The hood won't go over a helmet so it wouldn't be a great belay jacket, but if you're not climbing that means you don't have an oversized hood. You could argue that a wire peak would improve it, but if it's wire peak weather you'll probably have a hard shell over it anyway. The fleece lining on the neck and in the handwarmers isn't really necessary... but it is quite nice. I think given the option I'd save a few grammes and a smidge of packing space, but that's certainly not a deal breaker. The inside pocket is a good size (it needs to be to take the whole coat as a packpocket) so is much more useful than, say, the chest pocket on the Mistral.

Everything on it is useful keeping it in the sweet spot of simple but not too simple. A very good bit of kit for a warmth boost, and in the clearance department now marketing has decided it isn't cold any more good value too.

Excellent Jacket.

★★★★★

I bought this in the sale but have not had a chance to wear it yet, it's not been cold enough down here in the subtropical South. I look forward to wearing it this coming winter, the cut is excellent and as another reviewer has said it takes up no space in your pack, i'll be using whether hiking or to take for a cold European Christmas.

Excellent walled quilt lightweight jacket

★★★★★

This Jacket is the apparent successor to the Stratus Jacket and is absolutely perfect. The Zip is robust and the walled quilt is warmer and feels more comfortable than the Stratus. It may still needs an underlayer when it gets significantly chilly and for severe weather I still use my much heavier Downtown jacket. It's so smart it's good for shopping in up-market shops!, A word of warning! ,don't risk wearing it near !thorny bushes or climbing over stiles near barbed wire. I use my Stratus Jacket despite the zip and slight sleeve damage..

Light and warm

★★★★★

At first examination this jacket seems too light and thin to be effective for cold weather, but I can testify that it is actually very warm and comfortable with an excellent hood. I shall be wearing this a lot this coming winter.

Brilliant Jackey

★★★★★

Really love this jacket. Bought it due to the light weight. Did have reservations of how warm it would be. Needn’t have worried. Was up the Scottish Mountains, -2, with a wind chill factor of -9, no problem, it kept me lovely and warm. Jacket has been much admired by other people. A great buy, especially as I got 60% off in the sale.

An excellent jacket

★★★★★

An unexpected but necessary return to the UK gave me the opportunity to browse the Rohan catalogue to look for a lightweight but warm top for my late winter/early spring birding, much of which is on top of local mountains. The previous reviews for the Helios jacket caught my eye and I decided to go for that online as I knew I wouldn't have time to visit a shop. So, a couple of outings later on top of those mountains, I can say I'm very impressed. It is very lightweight but very warm too - I've just worn it over a t-shirt in brisk, cold easterlies and it does the job admirably. As previous reviewers have said, the construction is excellent, and if the weather really turns it will layer comfortably under a waterproof shell. Thoroughly recommended.

Perfect for the UK winter

★★★★★

Incredible jacket, tested in the Brecon Beacons at the weekend, just what I needed when the weather turned. Compact size to easily stow away in your pack until it’s needed. At 700 metres up the weather suddenly changed to freezing fog and rain. The Helios exceeded my expectations in keeping the Great British weather at bay. I stayed warm and dry for the rest of the day. Great cut, fits snuggly enough not to flap but not so tight it’s hard to move. A must have for the UK winter.

Helios jacket for men

★★★★★

A brilliant jacket of the highest quality construction. It's nicely cut so that it feels great to wear. Its light but effective at keeping out the weather, be it wind or rain. The hood is perfect and fits like a glove. I should add that I like the colour scheme as well with the bright contrasting lining inside. This is a superb addition Rohan and well priced with good colours so I recommend unreservedly.
