The Húsavík Jacket is the most technologically advanced jacket we’ve made. This fully insulated and fully waterproof jacket looks like a smart city parka but has the performance capabilities to keep you warm on cold winter days.
Read more…Named after the whale watching capital of Iceland, the Húsavík Jacket is the definitive choice for cold weather. Made with Thindown® insulation and with our 3-layer Barricade™ technology, it’s totally wind and waterproof on the outside whilst keeping you incredibly warm on the inside.
Featuring all the style of a smart city parka but with the warmth of a fully insulated coat, the Húsavík Jacket hasn’t got a baffle in sight. The genius of Thindown® technology means you can get all the insulating power of natural down but in a thin wadded sheet. This reduces bulk and size for a superior warmth-to-weight ratio, as well providing an even distribution of warmth across the body, unlike baffles which can often lead to cold spots and fibre migration.
The reduced weight and bulk means it’s far more packable than your traditional insulated down coat, so it’s perfect for travel, and unlike most down jackets it’s machine washable, making it much easier to care for.
The tough, durable polyamide 3-layer Barricade™ system means as well as being totally warm, you’re also protected from the wind and rain, this is aided by the use of the Durable Water Repellency™ finish, fully taped seams, storm cuffs and YKK Aquaguard™ zips, minimising the amount of water ingress.
The Húsavík Jacket comes with an adjustable hood with a bonded peak. It also comes with two zipped chest pockets, an internal zipped security pocket for valuables, two drop in pockets with flap and snap closure, and two zipped side pockets that are lined with microfleece to keep your hands toasty.
Make the Húsavík Jacket your go to winter coat this season for unrivalled protection from the elements. This stylish parka is the ultimate choice for your next cold-weather travel adventure.
Fabric:
100% polyamide with 3-layer Barricade™ technology and Thindow® insulation
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Barricade™ is a waterproof, windproof and breathable technology that has been tested and measured to achieve a minimum initial Hydrostatic Head measure of 20,000mm and an initial Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate measure of 20,000 g/m2/24 hrs. With our 3-layer construction method, the water repellent face fabric and the waterproof-breathable membrane are bonded together with a lightweight, wicking scrim.
Extremely packable with a very high warmth-to-weight ratio, Thindown is an innovative insulation made from natural down which has been made into thin ‘sheets’ bordered with a superfine scrim. This construction eliminates the need for baffles, reducing down migration and creating a more even distribution of insulation without cold spots. Machine washable.
Our DWR ™ finish is an advanced treatment which dramatically increases the water repellency of our fabrics. On its own, it offers a useful level of shower resistance; used in conjunction with our Barricade™ technology, it reduces the tendency of the face fabric to wet out and maximizes breathability.
Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Perfect jacket for winter use. Waterproof, wind proof and much warmer than you’d expect due to its light weight. Plenty of pockets. Very happy with my latest Rohan acquisition.
As a qualified ML I use to spend a lot of time on the Hill and take people on the Hill. I still spend as much time as I can hiking in the UK and different parts of the world with my wife and friends I bought this jacket a couple of weeks ago and I think it is outstanding I have not yet used it on the Hill yet but have no doubt it will do the job when I do. I use to and still do recommend using a layering system to regulate your body temperature in winter as well as summer. This jacket seems perfect for that job warm, waterproof, lightweight and comfortable. A map pocket would be helpful plus a light colour. Having said that it’s still a 5 star jacket
Bought this as was looking for a good waterproof jacket but also something more than a shell that my previous Rohan jacket I’ve had for 15 years. I read the reviews and had the opportunity to see the jacket for myself and try it on. The jacket does insulate but is not heavy so it allows you to layer should you wish, you can wear a Canadian goose down jacket and feel cold if your sat in one place is my assessment of the reviews on this jacket. The jacket is effective against wind and rain and I personally have not felt the cold but I have been moving (my toes were cold but that’s another matter) I think the jacket will do me fine the only slight niggle is you can have any colour as long as it’s carbon black ! A brighter colour would have okay but that said the garment has to function properly and it does for me.
This is my favourite jacket and I love it. Unfortunately I believed I had bought a waterproof insulated coat to deal with winter conditions in the high north Pennines. I live at over 1000ft . This is not it! I have never been to Husavik but suspect you would be cold. It is stylish, looks superb, and is waterproof in a monsoon, but the insulation is only OK , like a thin fleece. Because it is fashionable you cannot fit multiple clothes below. Autumn Or Spring wonderful But for winter I will stick with the old big Berghaus with 4 layers below.
It might not be lightweight but I won’t freeze.
Looks good over a suit in town but not the answer to a Northumbrian winter. You would need several layers underneath. As with some previous jackets I have found the main zip to be temperamental. Regrettably performance falls a little short of the price.
Like others who have reviewed here. My wife and I bought one each for a pending trip to Norway to see the 'Northern lights' in November this year (2020) on the back of the advertising on Rohan's website. However, and only having a limited number of uses, we both find that the garments do not live up to their description as we both felt the cold wind coming through in just a walk on a cold day around Winchester in Hampshire. Very disappointed and I would advice Rohan to be more careful with their overrated descriptions of there properties. We will be taking our old Orvis coats, bit bulkier but much warmer.
I bought this for a specific niche; travelling for business, in a suit, in winter. It is long enough, smart enough, warm enough, waterproof enough and has sufficient pockets to fulfill my exhaustive list of requirements.I have been looking for something for some time and was delighted to find this despite the price. Now it has been on a couple of trips to Denmark and Germany to test it out. Its not so bulky that you can't jam it in on top of your carry on bag on the plane however looks none the worse for it. It kept me warm standing in German Christmas markets (although the Glühwein likely helped) so I actually have no complaints about this product at all. I can see it becoming the winter go to jacket as I think it will handle anything I care to throw at it. If its like the other Rohan gear I have it is destined to become a perennial favourite.
This has quickly become my favourite Rohan product. I bought it for when the weather is really bad but I’ve found myself wearing it all the time. It’s lightweight enough to wear as an everyday jacket but warm and dry in extreme conditions. The two front pockets are great. A really good size to carry loads of stuff and big enough for a map. The zipped had warmers pockets are also great so no need for gloves. Additional security pockets for valuables, what more do you need. Overall, a very impressive lightweight coat that also does the job in the rain and cold.
It might be expensive but worth every penny.
