They were made out of tent fabric and designed to do one thing: work.
Over the years, though, they’ve become rather popular. And, as it happens, they’ve turned out to be kind of cool too. Worn by just about everyone, they look great – pretty much anywhere.
When Rohan set out to make jeans, we knew we had to make them better. The question was: how do you improve the ‘unimprovable’?
The answer, though, was fairly simple: innovative fabric technology.
Regular denim jeans look great. But they’re heavy, uncomfortable, too hot for travel and take an age to dry after washing. Rohan Jeans, by contrast, are made from Denim Plus™, a sophisticated fusion of cotton and advanced modern synthetics.
The results are remarkable. Because around a third of the fabric is CoolMax® polyester, they’re much faster drying than regular jeans – in practical terms, they dry overnight. So you can travel with only one pair. Which is quite an advantage.
They also offer a very good (UPF40+)* level of protection from the harmful effects of UV radiation.
And, unless you’re an absolute stickler, they don’t really require any ironing – although you’ll find the lightest, briefest touch from a warm iron will create an effortlessly smart appearance.
Designed to sit just below the natural waist, our jeans our designed in a classic style – with a couple of practical Rohan twists. Our slim leg jeans are a slightly trimmer fit than our straight leg jeans, without being too skinny. Perfect for a smart and modern look.
They feature plenty of pockets - two hand pockets, one of which has a zipped pocket hidden inside, a coin pocket, two rear patch pockets, and a discrete zipped pocket in the rear yoke.
*A Note on Sun Protection
All Rohan garments carrying our sun protection icon have been tested in accordance with recognised international standards for ultraviolet radiation protection. Garments are awarded a rating of UPF 40+. Protection may be significantly reduced with extended wear or if the garment is stretched or wet. Any associated UV risks will vary according to individual skin type or medical history.

Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
Fast Drying - Drying Time: 10 hours
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

Denim Plus is an advanced blend of cotton and Coolmax® polyester that offers the natural look and feel of 100% cotton denim – without the downsides. Compared to ordinary denim, it’s more durable, quicker drying, lighter and offers a comfortable amount of stretch for unrestricted freedom of movement.

This garment has been tested in accordance with recognized international standards for ultraviolet radiation protection – and has been awarded a rating of UPF 40+. Very comfortable jeans
These are a bit lighter than the Newtown jeans, but the fit is great and the fabric very comfortable. They are surprisingly warm for the lightness of the fabric and hence have gotten a lot of use this winter, but I also expect to alternate them with GR Explorers and Bags in the summer. I wouldn't worry about the "tapered" part of their name, as in terms of fit they look and feel like any ordinary trouser. I haven't had them long enough to gauge how tough they are, but am relying on Rohan's track record in this regard.
Favourite utility wear
I have many pairs of Rohan jeans from the Newtown the lined winter jeans and these current tapered leg jeans. For me the tapered leg works as although I run a lot my legs are not like Sir Chris Hoys (if they were these jeans would be way too narrow) the cut adds a contemporary look without being too extreme like some skinny jeans. I may buy a pair of the Nordic jeans but wished Rohan had kept the fleeced lined range as they are brilliant and work. The Nordic jeans could be an expensive gamble if they fail to live up to their predecessors standard.
Good jeans which need a simple tweak.
I really like these jeans and have had several pairs over the last few of years. I love the fit and cut which I think quite stylish for casual wear. My only gripe, and it IS something I really don’t like about these is that I really miss at least one extra belt loop, maybe two would be better still, on the rear waist band. I find the single rear loop simply not enough and can lead, even though the jeans fit well, and find my belt slipping out of place, particularly after sitting or kneeling. It’s a really simple thing which would make these pretty much perfect. As it is, whenever I have bought these Rohan jeans, I have been very tempted to go elsewhere.
