We’ve also included an elasticated internal waistband for further comfort and stretch, and have added a Dynamic Moisture Control™ finish to keep you feeling cool and dry.
The polyamide in the blend adds hardwearing durability to withstand scrambling up rough, rocky surfaces. It also makes the Lowland Shorts really easy to care for, with a quick dry time and no ironing required.
The Lowland Shorts have two drop in hand pockets, with a zipped security pocket concealed in the right hand side one. There’s also a zipped security pocket on the thigh and rear.
These versatile, technical shorts have a simple understated design that makes them great for wearing both on and off the hill.
Fabric:
Multiflex Light™ (94% polyamide, 6% elastane) with Dynamic Moisture Control™
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
DMC™ is a wicking treatment that rapidly spreads the moisture our bodies create across the surface area of a garment. This can be achieved through the technical construction of the garment or by a performance coating and ensures that the garment dries more quickly, encourages evaporative heat loss and helps you stay cooler and more comfortable for longer.

I find it very hard to find decent shorts that are short enough to end above my knee. These shorts have an 8.5" inseam which is perfect. Someone else said they were too short, but there are LOTS of shorts that are longer - 10 or 12" is much more common. These sit about 2" above my knee.
I take a 34 waist, and these in a 34 fit perfectly. The fabric is comfortable and feels strong. Decent zip. Zipped thigh pocket is actually useful, unlike on longer shorts where things in there just flap against your knee. Also small zipped pocket in top of RHS pocket and zipped rear pocket.
The main pockets are unusual in that the opening is to the top, not to the side (a bit like on some jeans). I like this because things are less likely to fall out. perhaps less good if you like to walk with your hands in your pockets.
Thank you Rohan for another great product - please don't change it!
These are slightly stretchy lightweight shorts that come to just above the knee. Very good for hiking and cycling in the variable UK climate because of the slight stretch and very fast drying fabric. If you are wearing a pack with a waist belt the design means there are no big seams that press, which is also good.
The front fastening is with a single popper not a button. That is fine, but I'd like an internal tab with a button/velcro or second popper if possible since the single popper pulls slightly. As someone else noted in their review, the current closure does pull on the fabric a bit.
I have three pairs of the escaper shorts (plus trousers) so I bought these expecting the same fit.If you run or are a schoolboy then they would be fine but they are far too short in the leg length for everyday use. Pity as I dont know where to look now for my ‘go to’ shorts.
Material has a crepe texture, very light weight stretchy and whilst slim-ish cut the waist size was generous and the fit does not cling to the body. The two open hand pockets are to the front face [similar to Bags] and made in mesh material aiding ventilation. There is one zip RH hip pocket and its twin is a neat patch pocket ideally placed on the LH thigh ideal for ready access to the pocket while driving or seated. The discreet mini card security pocket is located over the RH front pocket at the waist band. The broad Rohan woven belt will fit through the 5 belt loops and generous enough for a double thickness to dock the belt tongue end. The carefully oriented Rohan logo'd snap at the waist closure is strong but needs care to uncouple to prevent stressing the material where the snap crimps the fabric. The material drapes well, does not crease or becomes a concertina across the front from sitting. Whilst the cloth is a polyamide elastane blend I think the claimed hard-wearing for such a light material is questionable especially as the laundering instructions calls for "Gentle Action" at 30c. I do NOT like the stick on "Rohan" logo transfer! It cheapens the product.
I would like to acknowledge the very high skill of the machinists, the high stitch rate, overlocking seams, and buttonhole stitching reinforcement at stress areas on what must be a difficult fabric to work.
Very smart and comfortably stretchy. Ideal for leisure cycling and walking. Logging on to buy another pair.
They’re just about Perfect, As I’m learning are all Rohan products.
Comfy and a nice looking smart fit.
