Read more…Our Men’s Lowland Trousers are designed for every kind of outdoor adventure and they’re packed with clever features to keep you comfortable and protected, all day long.
First up, we designed the Men’s Lowland Trousers with MultiFlex Light fabric with a two-way stretch design. This uses a blend of polyamide and elastane to create a super stretchy and soft material. Put them on and forget about them, these trekking trousers move with you. Freedom of movement isn’t impacted, and comfort isn’t compromised.
Next, we finished the Men’s Lowland Trousers with our Dynamic Moisture Control technology. This material moves moisture away from the body and disperses it evenly across the surface of the fabric. It quickly dries, allowing more moisture to be moved there without it becoming uncomfortable. Essentially, this sweat-wicking technology works hard to keep you cool and dry, no matter the weather or level of activity.
There’s also UPF 40+ sun protection, so if the sun does make an appearance while you’re out and about, you can relax knowing you’re protected from harmful UV rays, at least from the waist down. This, combined with the high-wicking fabric, makes the Lowland Trousers ideal for warmer weather and outdoor adventures during the summer months.
Little features make all the difference when it comes to comfort and practicality. So we’ve included an elasticated waistband for maximum comfort and stretch. The anti-scuff hem makes these walking trousers durable and hardy on wear and tear too.
When it comes to pockets on the Lowland Trousers, we’ve added two drop-in hand pockets and two zipped pockets, one at the rear and one on the thigh. There’s also a hidden security pocket for valuables so you can tuck away your phone, keys and wallet. It might not sound important, but we’ve thought of every tiny detail and having plenty of space to carry everything safely and securely is key when exploring the outdoors.
These men’s trousers are versatile too. They’re ideal for walking, hiking and trekking adventures, whether that’s on the mountains, in the hills or even around town. Our aim is for these walking trousers to become part of your new go-to outdoor gear.
And because we believe high-tech trousers don’t have to look like high-tech trousers, we’ve gone with a minimal understated design, so wherever your day takes you, you shouldn’t look out of place. The Men’s Lowland Trousers are slim fit walking trousers that deliver on both functionality and design.
And if your adventures take you far from home, bring our Men’s Lowland Trousers along for the ride. They’re crease resistant and quick drying, meaning a breeze to wash and care for, and they’re packable, too, saving valuable space in your bag.
A Note on Sun Protection
All Rohan garments carrying our sun protection icon have been tested in accordance with recognised international standards for ultraviolet radiation protection. Garments are awarded a rating of UPF 40+. Protection may be significantly reduced with extended wear or if the garment is stretched or wet. Any associated UV risks will vary according to individual skin type or medical history.
Fabric:
94% Polyamide, 6% Elastane
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
DMC™ is a wicking treatment that rapidly spreads the moisture our bodies create across the surface area of a garment. This can be achieved through the technical construction of the garment or by a performance coating and ensures that the garment dries more quickly, encourages evaporative heat loss and helps you stay cooler and more comfortable for longer.

Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Ordered these online, which I would not normally do because often sizes differ. I need not have worried. These trousers fit perfectly, so Rohan's sizing is consistent - at least between the Lowland and Trailblazer variants. The Lowlanders are well tailored. The front pockets are more spacious than they initially feel and the left cargo pocket is plenty big enough to swallow a thick wallet or a large mobile phone. Very happy. Full marks for value, as I purchased them from the clearance page of the website.
The fabric on these trousers is superb; hard wearing, comfortable with just the right level of stretch & give. Smart enough to dress up, would even go with collar & tie for semi formal gigs, but just as well on the bike or the fells. Wash & dry easily in no time & no ironing so for travel, perfect. The stud fastening is okay but for longevity I would strongly prefer a traditional button. Wider range of colours would certainly encourage me to buy more, a shorts version would also be a hit I’m sure. Why on earth are they out of stock, please tell me they’re not being discontinued?
I have purchased two pairs of Lowland trousers and found them to be comfortable.
However one problem I have encountered is the waistband design.
It is only sewn at intervals and not fully sewn to the trousers waist and so tends to roll over while wearing. Another layer of material in the waistband and fully sewn would possibly resolve this issue.
Disappointed as Rohan normally exceed!
I already had two pairs of sandstone Lowland so i was aware of their quality. They replaced Escapers that had had years ago. I grabbed a pair of True Navy @ 50% off. I am very pleased and they are great value. Sometimes bargains are the best. They are mainly for warmer times but they could always be worn with an extra layer. Personally I like the stud opening.
I try not to wear these man made fabrics all the time. So indoors and out I also wear cotton fabrics. However the beauty of these fabrics is that they wash and dry really quickly. I’ll get a lot of use out of these trousers. Pack a Navy Blue and Sandstone for a trip and you’ve got the basis of an easy wardrobe that can be packed in a small rucksack.
Great pair of trousers with one small criticism the presstud.
In my experience these have a habit of popping open at the wrong time often with hilarious results for all except the wearer. Why not just fit a button i can’t believe there is any significant cost difference between a button and pressstud but whereas buttons are almost 100% reliable presstuds can’t be trusted.
Excellent lightweight walking trousers and a little roomier in the waist than my old Escapers. Perfectly smart enough to wear ‘round town’. Liked them so much I now have 3 pairs,
Looking to replace two pairs Fusion (MK 1 perhaps?) of 17 years + vintage - square box pockets after wife proclaimed the look too dated. Problem from fashion standpoint, Rohan doesn't die on me. Size wise, 34R 31L is ideal for my frame, cut is smart. Comfortable to wear, no unsightly creases, wash in a sink and no ironing. Brilliant.
Comfy fabric and a nice colour.... but for me... the legs are too narrow, especially round the ankle. I'm too old for drainpipe trousers. The front pockets are too shallow to feel safe for a wallet and mobile phone, and there's only one back pocket. Not sure why a pair of civilian [as opposed to combat] trousers need a zip leg pocket. They'll be useful for riding my bike, and that's about all. I doubt I'll buy another pair.
Another excellent product by Rohan. I purchased two pairs, one of each colour, to replace tired six years old Outsiders.
I have to express my slight disappointment in two areas.
1) the zip on the rear pocket is uncovered. The original Bags have this and, the zips mark and wear car seats.
2) the tri ring or D ring has been excluded and, replaced with a zipped pocket which is not really suitable for the car key fobs.
Absolutely marvellous, plenty stretch, like stretch bags only a lighter fabric and none of the unnecessary zipped pockets found on bags. It’s your choice.
My waist is 44” and the 42” waist of these trousers is a snug fit but within my comfort zone.
I would like to see more of these trousers in a range of colours with no pocket on the leg.
Otherwise great trousers, well done Rohan.
Lovely trousered with plenty of pockets. I bought two pairs to replace my ageing Escapers, which are no longer available. Just two things I don’t like. 1) they seem a larger fit than usual. Normally 36 is perfect for me but I should have bought 34,s as they are always loose and I need the belt done up quite tightly to keep them up. Yes, I should have returned them but was unsure, so kept them. If I had tried them in the shop it would have solved this but with COVID that was not possible. 2) I don’t like the side pocket zips. Just my opinion.
comfort functionality and does what it says on the ticket! The stretch material for summer weight is ideal, pockets are deep enough, there's only one thing missing, being the typical tri ring that rohan are renowned for, but that said there is a key pocket at waist height. would buy again for the functionality of the trousers
Wow, everything on these trousers is perfect for me. Light weight, stretchy, great colour that I can wear at work and on my outdoor forays. (No "D" ring but I've been a Rohan customer for years and never used one.)
Leg length regular and just right.
The press stud at the waist has a good positive snap, an improvement on previous efforts.
Pockets are ample and the cut is close without being skinny. I can feel the need for another pair coming on.
I really like these trousers and will probably use them for daily general use during the summer months. I am very disappointed though that the trousers are not available in my leg length and so have had to pay to get them shortened. Why is the only leg length available for those with a 30 inch waist regular ?
This is my first pair of stretch trousers from Rohan and I'm very pleased with them indeed I've just ordered a pair of bags in the same material having worn conventional bags for years. One improvement I would suggest is to increase the size of the zipped pocket on the front as it just manages to contain the remote control car key fob or are these just getting too big!
I have a big issue with Rohan's use of stretch material in these and other garments. These were bought to replace a very old and utterly fantastic pair of Backpackers as summer walking trousers. They fail the brief. I'm a pretty normal size - 6 foot, 34/33. They cling to my thighs and calves and they bunch around the ankles so there's no air flow. Where Backpackers are airy, these are constricting and hot. If I wanted jeggings I'd buy some from M&S. I've worn Rohan for over 35 years, but stretch fabrics are putting me off. If you re-made Backpackers using that super-light, super tough material I'd buy two pairs in a heartbeat. How's about a re-run of some more classics, including old style Bags in non-stretch?
These trousers are very good. They fit well and are extremely comfortable.
My everyday choice to wear.
Will be getting another pair very soon.
Would recommend them to anyone.
One comment, the front pockets could do with being a little deeper.
Delivery was ‘next day’ tho I hadn’t paid for that. Sizing bang on, despite what some others have said. Very comfortable, tho I’m used to a looser leg fit. They are thin, but they were warm & dry in the windy drizzle today. Would have preferred a second back pocket, but that’s the only “fault” I can list. Definitely recommend.
Despite being much tighter than I normally wear, I find these really comfy. The fabric is so stretchy. I'll buy 'em again. Sizing is a bit odd though - I'm normally 38+ not 36"
A good replacement for the now discontinued Escapers
A perfect fit waist and length.
More colours next season please.
Please do not change the sizing.
I like these trousers - very light, well made and good comfortable stretchable material which should be good for walking and leisure cycling. However, the 34 inch waist I bought is much too large. I bought a pair of Rohan shorts at the same time with the same waist measurement and these are rather tight, but will just about do (especially if I lose a bit of weight). So something isn't quite right with the measurement quality control? So I'll be returning the trousers but re-ordering a 32 inch waist (I just hope the 34 inch I received wasn't just a rogue pair and the 32 inch will fit.
First the dislikes...
Not enough belt loops.
Front pockets very wide opening.
Seem to be very long even though the measurements are correct.
The likes...
Very light.
Just the right amount of stretch.
Very comfortable.
Very soft fabric.
Very breathable.
Apart from the strange effect of seeming to have long legs, they fit just right everywhere else.
Would I buy them again, most definitely but maybe in a shorter leg length.
