The Full Story+

With an unbrushed exterior to offer a smooth finish that minimises pilling and a brushed fleece interior for exceptional warmth, the Moorland Jacket makes a fantastic mid-layer for cooler conditions.

Thanks to its sleek exterior the Moorland Jacket has very little bulk and is incredibly lightweight making it a comfortable mid-layer and a perfect choice for taking on hiking trips or treks.

The durable polyester fabric has a mechanical stretch and so provides great freedom of movement which makes it ideal for scrambling and countryside rambling.

The brushed interior provides exceptional warmth, and is wonderfully soft against the skin.

There’s low bulk seam construction throughout, minimising weight, but also reducing rubbing from rucksack straps around the shoulder. There’s also a brushed back fabric on the inside of the collar and the two zipped pockets providing an extra level of warmth and comfort.

Warm, stretchy, lightweight and bulk-free – the Moorland Jacket is the perfect cold weather mid-layer.

Lightweight - Weight: 395g

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.

Packable - Pack Size: 1400ml
Packable - Pack Size: 1400ml

Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.

Fast Drying - Drying Time: 6 hours
Fast Drying - Drying Time: 6 hours

All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Moorland Jacket

Like others I am frustrated with the changes in Rohan sizing.

I have jackets going back to the 90's where the Large size still fits perfectly.

Nowadays it is a lottery whether large will fit. The problem is usually in the shoulder width. Some fit OK, the Moorland jacket did not. My weight is fairly constant so why some are a difficult to squeeze into is a mystery.

The fabric is v. similar to my Troggings jacket - large fits fine.

Probably falling on deaf ears.

I returned this straight away.

Two sides of a similar coin

I was - and still am - a big fan of the predecessor Fellside Jacket. The Moorland Jacket is a subtle evolution of that. It feels softer and a little less stiff, and crucially the cut around the shoulders is more generous, the result being that it doesn't tend to ride up. So far I've used it as a lightweight top over a t-shirt when marching out to my local birding sites and then, depending on the weather, popped a shell on over the top or changed t-shirt and jacket for a long-sleeved shirt and warmer top. It's great strength is that you don't really know you're wearing it, but it keeps you nice and warm all the same. In less good weather I'll still use my Fellside Jacket as it does feel a bit tougher, and the smaller pockets are actually better at holding a mobile phone and field notebook. So although rather similar, the new jacket does a slightly different job, but very well indeed.
