The Full Story+

Named after the whale watching capital of Iceland, the Húsavík Jacket is the definitive choice for cold weather. Made with Thindown® insulation and with our 3-layer Barricade™ technology, it’s totally wind and waterproof on the outside whilst keeping you incredibly warm on the inside.

Featuring all the style of a smart city parka but with the warmth of a fully insulated coat, the Húsavík Jacket hasn’t got a baffle in sight. The genius of Thindown® technology means you can get all the insulating power of natural down but in a thin wadded sheet. This reduces bulk and size for a superior warmth-to-weight ratio, as well providing an even distribution of warmth across the body, unlike baffles which can often lead to cold spots and fibre migration.

The reduced weight and bulk means it’s far more packable than your traditional insulated down coat, so it’s perfect for travel, and unlike most down jackets it’s machine washable, making it much easier to care for.

The tough, durable polyamide 3-layer Barricade™ system means as well as being totally warm, you’re also protected from the wind and rain, this is aided by the use of the Durable Water Repellency™ finish throughout, fully taped seams, storm cuffs and YKK Aquaguard™ zips, minimising the amount of water ingress .

The Húsavík Jacket comes with an adjustable hood with a bonded peak. It also comes with one zipped chest pocket, an internal zipped security pocket for valuables, two drop in pockets with flap and snap closure, and two zipped side pockets that are lined with microfleece to keep your hands toasty.

The fit is ideally suited for keeping the extremities warm and flattering the shape of the body, with a dropped rear hem and an adjustable hidden elasticated drawstring on the inner waistline.

Make the Húsavík Jacket your go to winter coat this season for unrivalled protection from the elements. This stylish parka is the ultimate choice for your next cold-weather travel adventure.

Lightweight - Weight: 695g
Lightweight - Weight: 695g

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.

Packable - Pack Size: 2250ml
Packable - Pack Size: 2250ml

Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.

Fast Drying - Drying Time: 12 hours
Fast Drying - Drying Time: 12 hours

All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

3-LAYER BARRICADE™ Waterproof

with Durable Water Repellency™

Barricade™ is a waterproof, windproof and breathable technology that has been tested and measured to achieve a minimum initial Hydrostatic Head measure of 20,000mm and an initial Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate measure of 20,000 g/m2/24 hrs. With our 3-layer construction method, the water repellent face fabric and the waterproof-breathable membrane are bonded together with a lightweight, wicking scrim.

THINDOWN

Extremely packable with a very high warmth-to-weight ratio, Thindown is an innovative insulation made from natural down which has been made into thin ‘sheets’ bordered with a superfine scrim. This construction eliminates the need for baffles, reducing down migration and creating a more even distribution of insulation without cold spots. Machine washable.

DURABLE WATER REPELLENCY™

Our DWR ™ finish is an advanced treatment which dramatically increases the water repellency of our fabrics. On its own, it offers a useful level of shower resistance; used in conjunction with our Barricade™ technology, it reduces the tendency of the face fabric to wet out and maximizes breathability.

6 Secure Pockets

Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Lovely jacket

★★★★☆

Probably the best jacket I have bought. So warm I don't need all the layers I used to have to put on and completely wind and water proof. Pockets well placed and useful, hood comfortable when up. I love how light weight it is. I have one problem that no one else has mentioned so it may only be my jacket, and that is the zip. The material the zip is made from is hard and so stiff when doing up and doesn't bend nicely when done up to the neck. If the hood is up it is excellent but if not, then it is uncomfortable.

beware of warmth claim

★★★☆☆

Being a cold person,I thought this was ideal to replace a north face jacket i have had for years. I cannot imagine wearing it in the northern reaches of Iceland, as suggested, as on our recent coldest days, even with2 rohan layers, i was quite cold. So on the whole, for the cost, am rather disappointed.

Thank you for your feedback on the Husavik jacket. This jacket is insulated and waterproof and ideal for colder conditions, for more extreme conditions we would recommend more insulation in. Layering as you have mentioned for colder weather is always recommended, for the ideal layering products please do contact our customer service team who will be happy to help on 0800 840 1411.

Women's Husavik Jacket

★★★☆☆

I bought the jacket hoping to be snug and roasty warm but was disappointed. I was layered with a Rohan merino vest, merino top, moreland vest, fuse jacket and was still chilly during this recent cold snap. Fortunately I bought the next size up so had room for the layers and a couple more as required. I don't think that I'll be wearing this coat in the Icelandic Winter! On the other hand I bought Rohan down filled cocoon coat many years ago which has seen temperatures of -22C in Norway and Finland with just a vest and top underneath so that will be my coat of choice for the extreme cold. On a plus side it is light weight so I will wear it when it's not as cold but very expensive for just a jacket.

Thank you for your feedback on the Husavik Jacket. It sounds like you were well prepared and layered for the conditions. Without knowing exactly the environment you were in or the activity you were doing it is not easy for us to comment. This jacket is insulated and waterproof and ideal for colder conditions, for more extreme conditions we would recommend more insulation in. Great to hear you have had your Rohan Cocoon coat for many years and have been pleased with it.

Warmth overstated

★★☆☆☆

Yesterday was the first day I'd worn it out in cold weather. It was 1oC but no wind at all. Under it I had on a vest, along sleeve merino top and a Dale of Norway woollen jacket; I was still cold. This doesn't sound right as this coat was 'designed for the Icelandic winter' so should be fine for a couple of hours of the Cheshire winter. My old Craghoppers which I replaced with the Húsavík was far warmer; I wish I hadn't thrown it out now.

Hi, thank you for providing us with your feedback about the Húsavík Jacket. We would always recommend laying under your Húsavík Jacket to optimise your comfort based on activity and climate. Should you require any advice on layering and would like to discuss this further please do contact our customer service team on 0800 840 1411 who will be happy to help.

My review of the women’s Husvik jacket

★★★★★

I have never bought a garment online that I am so happy with. It is so warm but light as a feather. An absolute pleasure to put on. No big jumpers needed when wearing it. It really does live up to its glowing description. Excellent value for the money..

Love this jacket

★★★★★

I agree with previous comments, an expensive item but fabulous to wear. I only have one grumble, my black jacket takes longer than 12 hours to dry, seems to become very waterlogged (outside not inside) and takes at least 24 hours to dry out. This is disappointing but still love the jacket.

Best impulse buy ever!

★★★★★

I bought last seasons black jacket unseen based on the advice of a member of staff in the Exeter store. They were almost out stock everywhere but he managed to track one down for me and I have been delighted with this jacket. It is so much better in the wind and rain than any other jacket I have ever owned including more expensive Canada Goose jackets which are quite bulky in comparison.

I like the adjustable hood, that you don't need to wear multiple layers as it is very cosy and that it is smarter than most functional outdoor jackets.

I bought my usual size but you may wish to purchase the next size up if you prefer a generous rather than snug fit. You don't need to allow room for a thick fleece or jumper as you will be too warm.

Hi Annie, thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on our Húsavík Jacket. So glad that you are happy with your purchase and will pass your feedback in regards to the sizing onto the relevant department.

Best Coat I have Owned

★★★★★

I purchased this in winter 2019, the price makes it a considered purchase, but I have no regrets as it's the best all-round coat I've owned. The Thindown fabric keeps it warm, but not bulky. The parka style is fashionable, and even though I would wear walking, I didn't feel out of place wearing around the shops. I can't comment on the colour as mine is black. Thank you Rohan
