The Malay Jacket blends soft and relaxed natural linen with crease-resistant technical fibres for a hot-weather travel jacket.
Read more…The Malay Jacket is made using our clever Performance Linen™ fabric – a combination of natural linen fibres and durable polyester that makes it both soft and crease resistant, and perfect for hot-weather travel.
The blend of technical fibres with high quality linen means we can offer a good-looking jacket which combines the style of linen with technical practicality. Unlike normal linen, our Performance Linen™ won’t shrink, fade or lose its shape, and it’s more crease resistant too so little to no ironing is required.
The clever construction of the Malay Jacket ensures reduced weight and bulk with maximum comfort and breathability. It also packs down nice and small too, so it’s great for taking with you on holiday.
The jacket has two external patch pockets, with one featuring a discreetly concealed zipped security pocket to safely store small essentials like cash or a credit card.
For the busy traveller whose itinerary doesn't include laundry duties, this versatile piece is ideal for taking you from day to night – match with jeans for a cool-causal look, or team with a smarter pair of trousers or over the top of a dress for a great work or dinner outfit.

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Performance Linen™ is an advanced blend of natural linen and technical synthetics which offers all the benefits of linen – with none of the downsides. Just like natural linen, it’s cool and comfortable in the heat. But it’s also easy to wash, highly resistant to unsightly creasing and far more durable. In fact, it’s perfect for travel.
Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Bought early in the sale and therefore excellent value. It folds into my bag and comes up looking good. Washed well (I washed the dressing out before first wear), non-iron and kept its shape well. Collar is just right and smart with the Malay dark blue maxi dress. Hope it lasts as long as my now 6 year old linen jacket from Rohan.
Just wish there had been a pair of matching Malay trousers (and that they were high-waisted).
Absolutely true the shawl collar does roll out (previous reviewer), but this jacket is a glorious summer blue, super light and practical and and makes me feel classic. Would have liked a neat interior pocket, but I'm greedy. Nice hotel dinner? You got it! Stuff it in a bag? You got it! I look too scruffy in theses jeans? You got it! More strong colours I'd say Rohan. Travel isn't all navy and khaki.
I bought the grey strip version of this jacket to replace my much loved and well travelled existing Rohan linen jacket. On the whole it’s a very nice jacket and I will get a lot of wear from it, but £110 is a lot of money for an unlined jacket. I’d suggest waiting for the sales! My main gripe, apart from the price, is the ‘shawl shape’ collar which is a nuisance. It doesn’t stay folded over and the facing keeps catching. I’ve ended up wunda webbing them in place which isn’t ideal. I much preferred the neat, notched suit style collar of the previous version.
