Offering hugely efficient lightweight warmth, our Daybreak Jacket is the perfect packable insulation piece – in the mountains or around town.Read more…
At one time, down jacket ownership was exclusive to a tiny group of elite alpinists.
These days (whilst not exactly ten-a-penny) down jackets are widely available everywhere. Down jackets of the quality of our Daybreak Jacket, however, are still extremely difficult to find.
And that’s because the 800+ Fill Power down that we use in our Daybreak Jacket is of the very highest quality. It’s rare – and, let’s be honest, quite expensive.
But we think it’s worth it. Nothing else offers the same warmth-to-weight ratio as top quality natural down. If you need a jacket for cold conditions and you need to carry it, that’s obviously quite an important thing.
And that applies just as much for everyday use as it does in the mountains – our Daybreak Jacket is light and small enough to pack into a flight bag or small day sack. So, you’ll find our Daybreak Jacket just as useful on a city break to Prague as a trekking trip to Peru.
To keep things as light as possible, we’ve also gone for a pretty advanced outer fabric – it’s a featherweight, 28gsm polyamide with our 20 wash Durable Water Repellency™ finish. It’s down-proof, highly wind resistant and offers a useful bit of water resistance.
The whole jacket is constructed using our Minimum Layer Construction™ techniques to further reduce weight and improve comfort.
It features two zipped hand pockets – one of which doubles up as a Packpocket™ into which the whole jacket stuffs for compact stowage. They have easy-grab pullers designed to be operated with gloved hands.
Soft, stretch cuffs are comfortable and fuss-free. An elasicated, adjustable hem fine-tunes the fit and seals in the warmth.
The full-length main zip features an anti-snag wind-flap and a chin-guard.
The whole jacket is constructed using our Minimum Layer Construction™ techniques to minimise weight and maximise comfort.
100% polyamide outer with DWR™ outer, 95% goosedown, 5% feather (800 fill power) filling and 100% polyamide lining.
Pack Size: 1,800ml
Cutting down windchill can make more difference to your comfort and safety than the amount of insulation you are wearing. Garments that carry this icon are Highly Wind Resistant.
We use man-made technical insulation that offers high levels of thermal efficiency, quick dry times and minimum bulk. We also use the finest goose down for the coldest environments. All materials for cold weather, that carry the warmth icon, are rated Base, Mid, High or Extreme allowing you to select what you need with accuracy.
Pocket science at Rohan is all about precision and detail of design, but most of all, it’s about keeping your most important stuff safe at times when losing keys, passports and wallet is more than just an inconvenience. We use several different methods – whichever is the most appropriate. Some pockets are completely hidden with micro zips, some are touch and close with roll-over tops and some are high quality zips.
Good design is more often about what to take off than what to put on. And clever design is about giving one feature two functions, that’s why many Rohan garments feature an internal mesh stretch pocket that doubles as a Packpocket™ for easy storage.
By painstakingly stripping out unnecessary fabric and avoiding the common practice of double fabric panels we gain many advantages. The clothing is lighter and less bulky as well as quicker drying and more breathable. And because our fabrics are super tough, functionality can be improved by stripping away anything that doesn’t really need to be there.
Our goose down fill offers an extremely high fill power of 650+ (measured to the European standards) in conjunction with a hydrophobic, water-repellent finish for efficient insulation in a wide variety of conditions.
Our durable water resistant finish, which forces water droplets to ‘bead up’ and run off the outside of the jacket, is designed to remain at 80% efficiency – even after 20 washes.
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
