A classic all-season shell, the Women’s Brecon Jacket provides complete protection on wet and windy days, perfect over a base layer and/or fleece for extra warmth. A great addition to your kit list whether your exploring coastal towns or scaling the peaks.
So, whether you're taking on mountains or slower-paced walks, the weather plays a big part in our outdoor adventures. This is why the Brecon Jacket comes with our renowned Barricade Standard, which combines our latest fabric technology for being waterproof, windproof and breathable. Our innovative 2-Layer Barricade standard uses technology to bond the water-repellent outer fabric with the internal breathable membrane, which is then lined with taffeta and mesh for your added comfort.
For our garments to be classed as reaching the Barricade Standard the fabric must achieve a minimum Hydrostatic Head of 20,000mm. The jacket has been treated with a DWR finish which boosts the fabric's water repellency. In addition, it forces water droplets to 'bead up' and run off the outside of the fabric, maintaining its effectiveness.
The hem and cuffs provide you with the flexibility to fine-tune the fit to your preference so that you can continue your activities as comfortable as possible. Large functional pockets are designed to be worn with a rucksack allowing ease of access when reaching for your OS map. When the wind picks up the three-point adjustment fixed hood allows you to find the perfect fit for additional protection around the face.

Size is slightly on the generous side but means I can get my down jacket underneath if necessary. It is fairly roomy as I am size 8-10 but as I am 5'7" tall, I did not want the XS as I thought it would then be too short - the size up gives a bit more length. (I did phone Customer Services to enquire about the length - very helpful as always!). I have a couple of comments with respect to the jacket - firstly the colour on the website does not properly represent the "real life" colour which I would describe as a rust/terracotta rather than a true red, I am also slightly concerned about the vertical pocket openings and items possibly falling out and rain getting in, and lastly, I would have preferred the hood lining to be the "mesh" type fabric rather than the slippery polyester. Durable Water Repellency
Our DWR finish is an advanced treatment which dramatically increases the water repellency of our fabrics. On its own, it offers a useful level of shower resistance; used in conjunction with our Barricade technology, it reduces the tendency of the face fabric to wet out and maximizes breathability.

2-Layer Barricade
The Barricade standard gives you reassurance of a high level of waterproof protection. All of our waterproofs must meet our Barricade Standard to be ten times the British standard for waterproofing.
The waterproof fabric of the garment has two layers. The water-repellent outer fabric and the PU hydrophilic membrane are bonded together. In addition, a loose lining protects the membrane from the inside.
