Waterproof, breathable and incredibly comfortable, our Dry Roamers are perfect for walking, trekking and winter travel.
Read more…No-one really likes wearing waterproof overtrousers. And, to be honest, no-one really likes carrying them around either. But, if you’re out walking all day, you always feel you need to pack them – just in case.
At least you did – until now.
Our Dry Roamers look and feel like regular walking trousers. But, they’ve got a hidden advantage – they have a waterproof and windproof Barricade™ liner. It’s light, soft, flexible and offers amazing breathability and comfort in a wide range of conditions.
The outer is made from a tough, comfy blend of polyamide and elastane with our Durable Water Repellency™ finish. It offers exactly the same sort of performance you’d expect from our regular outdoor trousers – it’s hard-wearing, high wicking and quick drying.
The addition of elastane to the fabric blend provides a generous amount of stretch and allows for completely unrestricted freedom of movement.
Washing the trousers is simple – just throw them in the machine and hang them out. They’ll dry overnight – and they’ll still be waterproof. They require absolutely no special care whatsoever.
In terms of design, our Dry Roamers are aimed at regular walkers. But, with their understated, everyday looks, they’re perfect for winter travel too.
The soft, inner waistband features a snap closure and offers a comfortable, forgiving fit. They feature two hand pockets, an internal security pocket, a pocket on the thigh and a waterproof gusset behind the fly zip.
It’s also worth remembering that the waterproof protection is provided by a liner, rather than the outer fabric. Which means that the pockets themselves are not waterproof. So, obviously, it’s not a good idea to store anything in the pockets, like a mobile phone or your winning lottery ticket, on a very rainy day. There’s a certain amount of protection – but the contents are not going to stay bone dry all day long.
We really think our Dry Roamers set a new benchmark for practical outdoor legwear – leave your overtrousers at home and prepare to be amazed.
Washing Instructions
Caring for your Rohan Barricade™ waterproof will improve its performance and longevity. Simply machine wash your item at 30C with a gentle non-biological, liquid detergent. We recommend a second rinse to remove all traces of detergent from the fabric. Don’t use fabric conditioners, dryer sheets, stain removers or bleaching agents as these can impair the fabric performance. Garments may be drip dried. To rejuvenate the finish tumble dry your waterproof on the coolest setting, ensuring it is fully dry to complete the process.
Your Barricade™ waterproof has a Durable Water Repellency finish on the surface of the fabric. Over time, with wear and exposure to the environment, this can degrade, stopping water beading up on the surface of the jacket. Cleaning your waterproof will help maintain the finish. If necessary a re-proofing product may be used to restore the DWR. This can be used in your wash cycle and is activated by a cool tumble dry.
Fabric:
Outer: 95% polyamide, 5% elastane with Durable Water Repellency™; Lining: 100% polyester with Dry Liner Barricade™ technology
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Barricade™ is a waterproof, windproof and breathable technology that has been tested and measured to achieve a minimum initial Hydrostatic Head measure of 20,000mm and an initial Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate measure of 20,000 g/m2/24 hrs. With our Dry liner construction method, the PU hydrophilic membrane is laminated to an inner liner. A loose outer made from a water-repellent synthetic fabric protects the membrane from the outside.
Our DWR ™ finish is an advanced treatment which dramatically increases the water repellency of our fabrics. On its own, it offers a useful level of shower resistance; used in conjunction with our Barricade™ technology, it reduces the tendency of the face fabric to wet out and maximizes breathability.
Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

I normally live in another brand of lined walking trousers, but have been somewhat put out to learn they will no longer be imported to the UK. My lovely local specialist outdoors shop recommended Rohan to me, as one of the few places that offer lined walking trousers.
First impressions, these feel very nice and look smart, a neater fit than my previous.
They initially looked a wee bit short (I'm 5'9") but not an issue once the walking boots were on. The downsides? First, no zips on the pockets. What were you thinking?! The last thing anyone needs to worry about is stuff falling out, whilst scrambling about or lying down. Please, zips! Pop-studs are too fiddly.
Second, the sizing. I'm a podgy 12. I've put on lockdown weight and my previously well-fitting 12s had become a struggle to do up. The Rohan trousers felt much better, until I realised I easily had a spare inch or so of space at the waist. They're loose. I hate belts but trousers sliding down at random isn't much fun either. So I'd describe these as a generous 12, though I suspect the 10s would be too snug.
I've been out in the freezing Scottish wind recently and don't think these feel quite as warm as my old-faithfuls, but a pair of thermal leggings underneath is easy enough to do. Not yet tested them in the rain, there's plenty of that here but I've not felt masochistic enough to venture out.
Overall, they look good, feel comfortable and would be a real winner if they felt a better fit at the waist and had those pocket zips. For £115 I'd like to know my pocket clutter would still be where I put it, by the end of a day.
I purchased these Dry Roamers in size 10, but very sadly had to return them. These trousers would be excellent, but the cut of Roamers is strange, as it seems to be stitched too tight around the crutch. Going up slopes and railway sleeper steps on cliffs they would pull on each buttock due to the tight stitching. In the past I found the same problem on the ordinary Roamers as well. Due to the tightly stitched crutch I ordered size 12 ages ago in the ordinary Roamers, and they were far too big for me, so the problem is still there for me in the cut! I have lots of Rohan size 10 trousers winter and summer, and all these are a perfect fit. It's really sad, as I am desperately needing totally waterproof trousers, as we are determined to go out, and get exercise no matter what the weather.
I did find the trousers struck cold on my legs due to the waterproof lining. What I would love Rohan to make is women's totally waterproof trousers with a nice warm fleece lining. Wow! That would be fantastic!
On another note can we ask yet again to have some more feminine colours in the Women's range of garments PLEASE.
I was fed up with the ritual of waterproof over trousers and delighted to discover Dry Roamers - one-stop waterproof trousers! Just delivered, perfect fit including leg length. Can’t wait to go walking in the rain
Have been out in these a few times, once when it was hard rain and wind. They felt windproof and were totally waterproof.
Only started wearing my Dry Roamers recently when weather got colder. Am very pleased - have now worn in low temperatures and in the rain, and they are very comfortable. Kept warm and dry but didn’t get too warm on ascents. So far so good.
I waited a while before reviewing these because waterproofs generally don‘t stay waterproof very long for me. As soon as they are dirty they stop working and no amount of washing or reproofing fixes it. If you are out every day as I sm th dpd with which proofing declines is startling. I have given up expensive shells - ventile or non-membrane soft-shell and a cheap lightweight shell for downpours. These trousers work. I have had them for two years. I don‘t wear them anything like every day, but even so I’m amazed they still work. Comfortable and quiet. Not enough pockets though.
These have kept me dry even after several hours of heavy rain. The fabric is very soft, comfortable and doesn’t ‘rustle’ when you walk like most waterproof trousers. Sizing is generous, at 5’5”/135lb, the size 12 Short need a belt, & cover the top of my boots, however therefore plenty of room to wear long johns underneath in cold weather. Non zipped hip pockets are outside the waterproof lining & zipped leg pocket too small for anything other than a car key or credit card. A decent size zipped back pocket would be useful. So nice to find blue waterproof trousers, they are nearly always black!
I have only had these a short time and they are big round the waist for a size 12 but after walking our dog for an hour and a half each day in the pouring rain and high winds we have had down here on the coast I can only say I wish had them a lot sooner. They have been absolutely excellent. I don’t understand why they don’t have back pockets like the men’s do.
I've had mine for several years now and they are still looking good and keeping me dry.
Thanks for a great product.
I bought these (in navy) for my partner and although I thought they were pricey, she loves them - everything about them is perfect! Best trousers she has ever had (so happy I've done something right) Is there a male equivalent? as I would love them!
