Read more…One of the toughest tasks we've given to our designers in recent times was to develop a more ‘active’ version of our classic Bags trousers.
We asked them to create a pair of trousers which offered greater freedom of movement for adventurous walkers and trekkers.
The brief was to stay true to the original Bags design concept and create protective, packable, mountain expedition legwear retaining all the key signature features such as the pocket layout, an accessory D-ring and the reinforced knee and seat panels for durability.
We've used a tried and tested material from our trouser range - a super-tough technical fibre with elastane and Dynamic Moisture Control - and used it to make our new Stretch Bags.
They’re still highly wind resistant, high wicking, quick drying and offer a UPF 40+ sun protection* but the stretch now allows a greater freedom of movement enabling them to handle just about any activity you can throw at them.
*A Note on Sun Protection
All Rohan garments carrying our sun protection icon have been tested in accordance with recognised international standards for ultraviolet radiation protection. Garments are awarded a rating of UPF 40+. Protection may be significantly reduced with extended wear or if the garment is stretched or wet. Any associated UV risks will vary according to individual skin type or medical history.

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Dynamic Moisture Control™
DMC™ is a wicking treatment that rapidly spreads the moisture our bodies create across the surface area of a garment. This can be achieved through the technical construction of the garment or by a performance coating and ensures that the garment dries more quickly, encourages evaporative heat loss and helps you stay cooler and more comfortable for longer.

This garment has been tested in accordance with recognised international standards for ultraviolet radiation protection – and has been awarded a rating of UPF 40+. The protection offered may be significantly reduced with extended wear or if the garment is stretched or wet. Any associated UV risks will vary according to individual skin type or medical history.

Bought these after buying another pair, the same size but a different colour. I like the colour and the fit is great. Drys quickly as well (as promised) which is a bonus.
Lovely stretch
This is the third pair of these specific trousers I have. Purely because they are comfy, stretch with me and easy to wash and dry. Great for spring and autumn before and after the shorts season. My only niggle is that each time I have purchase several pairs of the same size to find the ones which fit best because of the variability within the sizes. Only ever buy when there is money off since I think they are expensive.

Great walking trouser with plenty of give for extra movement on difficult terrain. We got caught in a heavy shower and though they are not showerproof they dried very quickly whilst walking. True to size. Smart enough for travelling in.

Reliable style
Have two pairs already and these for summer, being light coloured, are as good as ever. I’m a size 8 and fit really well although I always have to shorten them to fit my shorter legs. They wash very well too.
I wear the navy and black pairs as a ‘smarter than jeans’look when on holiday and will be using them in Italy later this summer.

I am delighted with my trousers - I ordered a size 10 short and they are a perfect fit. The trousers are really comfortable to wear and I love all the pockets. I will definitely be ordering more in different colurs.
A good fit
A good fit at the waist and over the hips and the longer length was just right. I am a size 12 and 5'9". The troursers look smart with good zips on the pockets. They are a narrow straight leg but not so much that they look like leggings. A lightweight feel and perfect for most of the year, but I couldn't fit thermals underneath so not suitable for the very coldest conditions. Good value in the sale.

Just received these trousers, there lovely quality, however they’ve come very small, I usually have size 12 I ordered 14 but are much too small for me
Excellent summer walking trouser
I really like these trousers for the warmer weather. They are a neat shape, comfortable and have been easy care. The pockets are great. I have found the perfect place for my mobile is in the rear pocket which originally was too big but I've stitched a vertical line at a sensible spot to keep the phone from moving horizontal and at my side so it doesn't interfere with sitting down.
So many pockets!
I love all the pockets in the stretch bags - I can carry all the basics without straining my shoulders and back with a handbag or cross shoulder bag. They are comfortable for walking and general active living too.
Smart and comfortable
These have straight legs and fit my big calfs. Plenty of stretch all round without looking like maternity trousers . Lots of deep pockets. Will be buying more in different colours
Love Stretch bags!
I am now the proud owner of just about every colour of stretch bags except the purple colour (I don’t like purple)! But like Catherine, one of your other reviewers, whose advice I took before ordering online, beware the sizing of the taupe colour. They do come up small. I normally take a size 8, but following the advice ordered a 10.
They are only marginally larger than the 8’s that I possess, and are an excellent fit. So.... apart from the caveat on the taupe sizing, 5 stars as usual for a Rohan quality, delivery, and customer service.
Brilliant, but beware rogue sizing!
Just taken advantage of the current offer to purchase my second pair of stretch Bags. I already have the 'ink' colour from last year, in size 12. However the new season's colours: acai purple and taupe, are running small and I have had to size up. It might help to note that. I can't mark the size on your review because the ink colour is consistent with your other women's trouser sizing. Staff in the store warned me about this size difference only in the Bags and it would be helpful to have a note so that people order the size that fits!

I saw these trousers on the Rohan website and decided to check them out at the Oxford High Street store.
The staff were exceedingly helpful, going out of their way to get the right size and fit.
Normally I wear a size 10, but the size 8 short is just right. The material feels lightweight and easy to wear - just right for long-haul travel, as well as walking
