We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Insect Shield® technology converts clothing into convenient, comfortable and effective protection against biting insects. Each garment is treated with permethrin – an invisible and odourless ingredient that helps protect against insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers and midges.
This garment has been tested in accordance with recognized international standards for ultraviolet radiation protection – and has been awarded a rating of UPF 40+. The protection offered may be significantly reduced with extended wear or if the garment is stretched or wet. Any associated UV risks will vary according to individual skin type or medical history.
DMC™ is a wicking treatment that rapidly spreads the moisture our bodies create across the surface area of a garment. This can be achieved through the technical construction of the garment or by a performance coating and ensures that the garment dries more quickly, encourages evaporative heat loss and helps you stay cooler and more comfortable for longer.
Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

I reviewed the Trailblazers last year, as I was so disappointed that you had made the thigh pocket vertical, Prior to that, I had been buying them for many, many years.
Since you had so many folk last year who also found the vertical pocket pretty useless, I was very hopeful that you would listen and change it back to the tried and trusted horizontal style this year. How disappointed I was today to see that you haven't listened to your customers at all. You might just have lost my custom altogether now.
The change of the thigh pockets from horizontal to vertical zips was not ideal. Difficult to unzip one handed and items fell out. Please change back to the older design.
My wardrobe is 90% Rohan and has been for almost 20yrs, I can’t rate it highly enough.
However, my latest pair of Trailblazers is another matter entirely. Why oh why have you changed the pockets to useless vertical ones? I’ve lost count of the number of times stuff just falls out!
It’s not rocket science that a horizontal patch pocket is far better and more secure than a vertical one. Do you not ‘road test’ your design changes? Whoever reads these reviews, if they do, please ensure the feedback gets to the right department. Please change the pockets back!
My thanks go to all of your contributors who warned about the thigh pockets on the women's Trailblazers. Solution - I bought the men's version which still has one proper thigh pocket - and I am delighted with them.
I can't grade them higher than expectations because my expectations of Rohan are very high, and have been since my first purchase (still in use) in 1981/2 from Malham.
Positive
I love this product - love the look and love the fit I have two pairs with pockets on the front and the latest version with pockets on the side.
A plea
Please, please put the pockets back to where they were as it is impossible to access the pockets quickly in the new position and not so comfortable as the front pocket version.
Thank you
I have two pairs of the old style trailblazers with cargo pockets which are superb. The new style pockets are dreadful. They are difficult to open and shut and contents fall out. Why change a style for the sake of change? Please bring back the cargo pockets and I’ll buy again. But not until then.
I absolutely love these trousers in this design. Fit is great and flattering. Performance is great , light weight , easy to move and sit comfortably, cool in hot weather, comfortable in the rain , dries quickly, durable, washes well and are easy to pack. I was gutted when the model that I had had for years that had zip pockets finally wore out (I wear a pair every day - best hiking trousers ever!!) was changed to one with open pockets and sadly returned my entire order. Fit was horrible because the pockets flapped open leaving me feeling and looking bulky and unattractive. Putting anything in the pockets made the trousers even more bulky and uncomfortable. I love the new design - please don't change back to open pockets - the existing zip ones are big enough for a phone, tissues, poo bags and dog treats which stay safely zipped in while running around an agility ring and for anything else I wear a small bum bag.
I read some of the previous reviews about the design change and thought they were being fussy. After all, the new style looked good and stylish and fitted me well in the changing room.
How I wish I had heeded the reviews. The new style is hopeless, the pockets are in completely the wrong place and barely hold anything. What they do hold makes it impossible to walk or sit down comfortably.
Really Rohan what is going on? This is the 3rd product I have bought in the last year that has been completely substandard, after 5 previous years of being 100% satisfied with every previous item I had bought (of which the number was in treble figures).
Please stop changing or removing tried and tested and successful lines.
And to you in the web team who are saying you are passing our feedback to the relevant design team, when might we actually start to see an improvement again?
This is another classic case of numerous style changes and bad sizing in rohan trousers. You keep changing stuff that works! I have 2 pairs of the originals which are superb for summer and perfect. I took the new ones back. No good and bad fit, bad new design. Such a shame. You don't have to keep changing things. There are huge issues with trousers in general and bad design when originals were better. A great shame. Rohan need to listen to feedback and get the good designers back!
Why oh why keep changing a design that used to work perfectly? These are excellent trousers ruined by a serious design flaw. Please listen to us. Horizontal zips please!
I have several pairs of these trousers. The original design was perfect with two zipped hand pockets, a zipped rear pocket and two leg pockets. Then the design changed to lose the rear pocket and the zips non the hand pockets, which was a shame. The latest design brings back the zip on the hand pockets - good, but the leg pockets are now worse than useless. I lost something from one of these pockets because once you’ve managed to open them, fiddly to say the least, it is easy to pull out more than intended.
Such a shame that the original perfect design was changed.
I have bought these trousers before and after the design change. I also think that the latest pocket design is a negative development. They just aren't as practical as they were: they feel smaller because of the zip and the positioning is less accessible. I also prefer the previous belt loops. However, I continue to like the overall fit which is stylish and comfortable, and I like the Insect Shield protection.
I am so disappointed that the leg pockets have gone, I have 3 pairs in the old design and, like others before me wanted another pair. No way, the pockets are useless, as I discovered on the Roamers where not only is the pocket useless but it's now on the left leg. As this is more of the same I won't be buying
I have been a fan of these for ages and generally buy at least one new pair every year. I couldn't believe it this year when I bought some and found you have changed the thigh pockets. Complete disaster as far as I'm concerned. To start with, not only can you no longer open and close the pockets single handed, it's actually quite awkward even with two hands. Impossible if you're out with a couple of dogs on leads. Also, the pockets can no longer be left undone as stuff falls out, and lastly, stuff has a tendency to fall out anyway when you're trying to open and close them. I was so excited when I saw you'd introduced a navy colour too, but sadly I won't be buying any more unless the pockets go back to how they were.
I do sometimes wonder if anyone at Rohan actually tries your gear out in any serious hill or mountain conditions at all...
Love these trousers, prefer the new style pockets think they are an improvement
I have a pair of the original design which are perfect for golf as they dry out very quickly after a soaking, and have great pockets to hold phone etc; however my pair are a bit on the large side as I have lost weight since I bought them. Came online to buy a replacement pair and saw straight away that Rohan have ruined the pockets. Why? Read the disappointed reviews of others who confirm my view that the new pocket design is not practical. I won't be buying another pair until they go back to the original design and sincerely hope Rohan take note of the feedback - particularly that two hands are needed to open the zip, and that sitting down means sitting on whatever is in them!
I have to agree with other reviewers, these are my favourite trousers (I have three pairs now) they are perfect for travelling and active holidays. BUT, the constant change of design is not of benefit, but change for change’s sake. The horizontal pockets are so much better than the vertical ones. Please re-instate them for next season! I’d rather buy at full price and get something that is perfect. If they are in the sale, you should be asking why? The answer is, because they’re not as good as they used to be!!
I love these trousers - the two front thigh zip pockets were perfect for travelling, especially to less salubrious areas. I am able to safely keep my wallet and passport in one pocket and my mobile in the other. Now those wonderful pockets are no more and instead there is a huge pocket down the side of one leg that is impossible to open with one hand, and is at the back of the leg so that when you sit down you are sitting on whatever is in the pocket. I was going to buy a couple more pairs of these in the new spring colours, but when I saw what they had done to the pockets I didn't even bother to try them on. WHY OH WHY ruin a perfectly good design??????? The ratings given are for the new design - the previous design would have got 5 blobs for both expectations and value.
Before I start on my complaints, let me tell you the things that are great about these pants. There is a snap on the right side of the belt to keep it in place on the pants. This means you can secure something between that snap and the side loop--a compact camera case, eg-- and it will not fall off when you undo your pants. The stretch is great for hiking and clambering and the insect shield really works to keep those biting insects away.
I have 4 pairs of the Trailblazers in the old design, where you can easily slip your mobile phone in the cargo pocket without even bothering with the zip. This is a great feature for hiking when you want to use your phone for a quick photo, without slowing down the group. Unfortunately, this year I needed to size up. I agree with other reviewers that the pockets on the newer style are not nearly as convenient as the previous design, and hope that Rohan will return to that since they really were perfect hiking pants. I was able to buy these in the sale section, but doubt I would pay full price for those with the less user-friendly pockets. Please, Rohan, these pants used to be perfect. Bring back the east-west cargo pockets and ditch the north-south pockets on the thighs.
Trailblazers WERE the most comfortable and practical trousers I've ever worn. Great fit, no rustling sound, comfy waist and excellent pockets....
UNTIL.... this season Rohan changed the zip pockets so they now run down the leg which needs a contortionist to access and as soon as you open it the contents fall out.
I was all set to buy this season's colour until I noticed this when I tried a pair on in my local store, and promptly put them back. So disappointed.
Why have you done this Rohan, please give us back the old pockets that worked so well - one for a mobile and one for a map, with no risk of either falling out.
I have had the willow trousers before and they had a lovely green tinge. These however are the exact same shade as the roamers, but more expensive. Very disappointing.
I recently travelled through Brazil and these trousers performed brilliantly, super comfortable, the multiple zip pockets are large enough to hold a compact camera and glasses. Enough stretch to climb in and out of jeeps and boats, washed and dried with ease and so quick! and never got bitten once! Comfortable waistband with no digging in and a decent belt to add a dash in finesse...
Have worn these trousers very happily for three summers now. The most comfortable trousers I've ever encountered even more so than the Roamers and that's saying something. Perfect, easy to launder, pack, no drag, comfy waist, great pockets.... BUT.... this '19 season you've changed the pocket to a zip at the back! Why? You did this to the Roamers (of which I have several pairs)and makes accessing them a contortion, especially when sitting down thus causing the contents to fall out. Not good if it's your phone! You've also made them very hippy. So, I bought the 30" men's version instead which still has the sensible pocket with the zip at the top. So, a partial redemption for a long time Rohan devotee!
