They’re perfect for hill-walking, Sunday strolling, daily dog walking, running, leisure cycling and gym trips.
Made from an advanced blend of polyester and stretchy elastane with our Durable Water Repellency finish and a lightly-insulating brushed inner, they’re tough, highly breathable, water-resistant and offer completely unrestricted freedom of movement.
They also provide a very good (UPF 40+) level of protection* from the harmful effects of UV radiation.
They’re designed in a simple, pull-on style with a soft, elasticated waistband and internal drawcord tie. The straight leg cut will, for most people, be perfect. Not too tight and not too slouchy. The hem has a discreet scuff tape at the rear to protect from rubbing boots and contact with the ground, to prolong the life of the garment.
They feature two zipped hand pockets which offer secure storage for your keys or some cash.
*A Note on Sun Protection
All Rohan garments which carry our sun protection icon, have been tested in accordance with recognised international standards for ultraviolet radiation protection. As a guide to the level of protection offered to covered areas, garments are awarded a rating of UPF 40+. Protection may be significantly reduced with extended wear or if the garment is stretched or wet; the reduction of associated health risks will vary with other factors such as skin type or individual medical history.
Fabric:

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.
Our DWR finish is an advanced treatment which dramatically increases the water repellency of our fabrics. On its own, it offers a useful level of shower resistance; used in conjunction with our Barricade technology, it reduces the tendency of the face fabric to wet out and maximizes breathability.

Losing the odd bit or bob when you’re close to home is rarely an issue, but losing car hire keys, passport, phone or wallet becomes more important than ever in a far off land. That’s why lots of thought goes into safer pockets – deeper, zipped and hidden.

Bought a pair of Size 12 short Troggings last year. Size 14 was too big. Size 12 were a perfect fit. Ordered another pair (12 short) because I was so pleased with them. Sadly the fit was different. Smaller & longer so I had to return them. Very frustrating when I thought I had found the perfect trousers. The fabric is lovely & my original pair have washed really well.
I like the low waistband as I was unable to wear Rohan trousers in the past due to high, small waistlines. I find the size generous except for the knees which pull a little at first. After wearing for a while, and sitting in them, the knees seem to give a little, so that problem was solved. It’s early days, but I’m happy so far.
I have a couple of pairs of Troggings; one in a 10 and one in an 8. The 10s are quite baggy and the 8s slightly snug but a better fit. These have changed fit again to a slimmer leg and also the material seems to be a bit thinner than the other two, and slightly less stretchy. Still a useful pair of trousers for leisure wear
Just had new style troggins delivered in black so pleased with the slimmer fit leg my original navy blue ones are very baggy but are tried and trusted. Great that they were in the sale. My only criticism is the short are still long as I'm only 5ft and I have to alter them and unfortunately lose the kick tape which is a shame.
Just received my delivery of navy blue troggings. Yes, definitely a different shape to my other 4 pairs . Fit nicely on my waist and short length is just right for me, being about 5ft 4. Hope they prove to be as versatile as my other troggings .
I prefer the wide leg because for me it looks smarter and I can dress it up or down, going out and being very comfortable at the same time :) which I can't do with the narrower leg as it looks more casual. I also like a wider leg when walking as it avoids that knee pull.
The answer I think is for Rohan to make both as these trousers have so many uses for so many people and they are just super comfy.
I'm a newcomer to Troggings and very happy. Just waiting till them come in the sale. The olive brown is a very versatile colour. I'm 5ft 5inches with long legs and 30 inch waist and the 12 long fit perfectly. We run a B&B so I need to look decent when welcoming the guests but to have something practical. Troggings fit the bill.
I was reluctant to purchase another pair of Troggins because of the negative reviews but I actually like them better than the original style. The fabric is different, but still good and comfortable to wear. The slimmer ankles mean they tuck into wellies more neatly and are, therefore, very useful for winter walks, gardening and stable duties. The fit is ok, and at 5'7" I need the long leg length. They were good value because of a 20% reduction promotion. Please Rohan, keep making trousers in long length.
Another staple Rohan style ruined by a ‘makeover’. Compared to my previous pair, the lower leg is 4 cms narrower at the knee and 6cm at the ankle, resulting in tight fitting around the calves. The trouser leg then flares outwards, bagging around the hips, sagging around the bottom and gaping at the lowered waistline. Not a good look!
Sadly these are not fit for active wear, the tight fit at the calves restricts movement and the gaping waist falls lower and lower, the shoelace drawstring is no substitute for poor design. Not the “completely unrestricted freedom of movement” advertised. Such a shame.
As in now all the Rohan trousers I have tried, the cut of these is slim & presumably wonderful for straighter shaped people. Unfortunately, I am curvy & now cannot find a pair of Rohan trousers that do not rub me badly between the legs when walking. I have been forced to buy dry roamers two sizes too big (they look ridiculous) & wear them as hipsters to have a pair of windproof & waterproof trousers this winter After decades of aporeciating & wearing Rohan clothes, I have no choice sadly now but to buy trousers elsewhere. Please change the shape back, Rohan designers!
Love the Troggings but as with the Amblers they are much too long even though I buy the smaller length..I usually have them taken up by 2/3 inches. Please can you make the length at least two inches shorter.
I have two pairs of Troggings.
They are exceptionally comfortable and warm.
I wear them around the house and in the garden where nobody can see me. I get changed if going out or walking because I find them very baggy and unflattering around the legs.
I am 5’10” with long slim legs snd they are very baggy on me..
I love these trousers and have 4 pairs, I wear them all winter & also love them for going on a long haul flight & so comfortable to drive in
Why have you changed the material you use to make these troggings?
I have had 2 pairs previously which I adore for all outdoor activities for warmth and comfort as well as style. I bought my latest pair in September to wear for work. I work in a Primary school and I knew I would feel the cold over winter with all the Covid19 fresh air guidelines.
This latest pair the material is much thinner and clings to my legs. My sister agrees the pair she bought around the same time are thinner and clingy and a different shape. I can't see other reviews that say the same, but there's a definite change and its not for the better. Please bring back the old material.
My 8 year old blue troggings are looking a bit tatty now so, with no great hopes in view of some of the reviews, I decided to give the new ones a go while on offer. They are (almost) perfect. The same lovely warm fabric, nice deep pockets, leg not too narrow, and just the right ‘rise’ to make them really comfortable with no bagginess. I have my usual problem with all things Rohan - even the short length is too long - but at only 5’1”, that isn’t surprising. But it’s a shame I’ll lose the tape at the back of the hem during alteration, as it adds stability and helps them hang nicely.
I bought myself a pair of these to wear around the stables whilst mucking out my horse etc in the winter. I am so glad I did! They are really comfortable. With the drawstring waist I can tighten them up to exactly how I want them so that they never fall down or cut in. They keep my legs warm and they wash really well and dry quickly so I never need to go a day without them.
I've seen some reviews saying that the waist is too low. For me it is perfect. I am quite curvy and a typical pear shape but the waist is really comfortable and I can tuck my t shirt in to the waistband for extra warmth.
I bought 2 pairs a couple of months ago and I love them. I was a bit apprehensive after reading the reviews as I usually prefer a waist fitting and zip fastening. But they are so comfortable and the style is very flattering, and they are lovely and cosy in winter.
Unfortunately - as a pear shape - the new style doesn't suit me at all. I have found a couple of used pairs on ebay but my stock of usable troggings/striders is much reduced! I am desolate as I pretty much live in these. If you are narrow hipped and don't mind a lower rise I'm sure you'll be happy with these though.
This is my first pair of troggings, bought because l was very pleased with the summer version of pull-ons, the 'Amblers'.
The troggings are comfortable and pleasant to wear most of the time, but they do slip down at the back after sitting or climbing, for example, so that I'm regularly having to adjust them. To avoid this the laces can be tied, but then they are no longer pull-ons. And frankly, untying and retying laces every time you take them on/off is less convenient than a zip - especially on a windy hillside under layers of clothing.
So for me, as some of the other reviewers, the cut is not quite right. I won't be wearing them for the purpose I bought them although they'll get plenty of use as regular casual trousers.
This experience with troggings has made me a bit nervous as I've become a fan of Rohan trousers of many styles, and so far they have been 'wear and forget' stars. I won't be quite as confident with future purchases.
Worn these for the first time today, in the rain. The water repellent fabric is great and they were very warm. I love the fit around the ankle as stops the hem getting muddy as you walk. I will definitely get some more when back in stock.
I agree with some reviews that an invisible back pocket would be great, but the zipped pockets are great, nice and deep.
I don't like a low rise, but these are perfect, so not sure how they differed from previous versions.
Just received my new Troggings and am really disappointed in the new lower rise. I absolutely love my old troggings, but the new style is not the same trouser at all. Had to return them and am now looking for an alternative. ☹️
This must be 5th or 6th pair of troggings, there is nothing else to beat them for winter wear, so warm and dry. Chose Navy this time, such a great colour as already had a Grey pair. Still miss the boot cut from 10 years ago, but the slim ankle is good (and trendy I suppose!).
I wear my troggings for golf, cycling and walking. I love the fit, they are so comfortable and cosy and great for active autumn/winter wear. I can understand some people not liking the 'below-waist' fitting, but it suits me. Whilst not waterproof, they tolerate light rain as long as it's not too sustained, as the water 'blobs' on them and they then dry really quickly. They look smart as well (until I get them muddy!). The only thing I miss is a small pocket. Bought another colour a couple of weeks ago!
I love these trousers they are so comfortable.
I am a gardener and i wear them all the time , when it is cold i put a pair of waterproofs over the top making them super warm .
They last me years.
When i have worn them out at the knee i have turned
them into gardening shorts so as not too throw away .
I also have a couple of pairs for when walking and on wet damp days taking the children to school .
The fit i find is really good i have gone up a size from a 12 to a 14 but that is because i like a bit of room in them .
I have brought them for as many years as they have been made and i prefer this newer cut.
I too had read some negative reviews so was slightly wary ordering my 3rd pair but delighted. Seem to be softer inside and the water repellent (haven't washed them yet) is amazing. The fit is slightly different but they fit me well and I like the slimmer leg (less muddy) and impressed by the extra band at heel to protect the material. Would like a 3rd zipped pocket having got used to either the small down the leg pocket or a hidden zipped back pocket - but can live without it! Pockets deeper than the previous model (which is good!).
My first pair of troggings and won't be my last. They are a lovely fit and so comfortable. They stood up well to a wet walk on Sunday keeping me cosy and dry.
I like the fact that they have good pockets and are not too high wasted.
I have 2 pairs if these trousers and wear them all the time. They are a perfect fit, I am small and a size 8 and it is so difficult to find any trousers that fit neatly and sit well at the waist. I feel smart when I am out walking or shopping. In addition they repel drizzle, wash well and keep me warm without tights. Love them.
Oh dear. I had been hoping that Rohan would actually listen to their customers and bring back the wider leg and the higher rise from crotch to waist. For several years the original troggings have been a staple of mine but I won’t be buying these this winter. Will you please listen to us. We want a decent rise and a wider leg, especially for over boots. Look at the age group of your customers. Most Women aged 66 and above don’t want or need low rise trousers!!!! If I want fashion I will go to a fashion shop! You are putting fashion and travel wear before functionality and bill walking gear these days. If this continues then sorry to say I think it’s a poor outlook for you as a company.
I am living in these marvellous trousers! Ideal fit everywhere for me. I find many trousers are too long between crotch and waist but these are perfect and so comfortable. I like the slim ankle width and they are brilliantly water repellant and warm. Excellent for cycling and dog walking. I am just waiting for my size to come back into stock so that I can order more.
I own two pairs of Troggings in the old style, have done for some years. Many of the reviews mentioned the length from crotch to waist was too short. As I am short-waisted I took a chance as many trousers are too long-waisted for me. They fit perfectly, are comfortable. I love the narrower leg and also because the tape at the waist is inside rather than having to tie it outside and then tuck it in the waistline in much neater. Perhaps they sit a little lower than my actual waist but I prefer this anyway. Perhaps I had better buy another pair in case you change the cut again.
Was unsure about these as reviews not too good. But my husband has them and thinks they are brilliant. Bought with 30% off and glad I did! They are so comfortable, soft and a very good fit. Would recommend them. Am a size 12 with short legs. The only thing is that they are more hipsters than on the waist which is not a problem, but would have liked them to be a bit higher. So can see it might be a problem to some. 12 is my normal fitting for rohan.
I really like these. They fit well are the right length and very comfortable. My new favourite walking trousers.
I am really glad I didn't read other reviews before I bought these! They are very comfortable and fit really well. The lining makes them quite warm so I may not wear them in the hot weather. I will be buying another pair soon!
Bought these in Sept 2020 to replace my much loved bootcut troggins. Judging by the previous reviews I expected them to be a poor fit and ordered a second pair in a larger size just in case. In the end my usual size 12 (in short leg length for these straight leg troggings - normally regular length in the bootcut style) was a good fit and I have not had a problem with the depth of the cut, I am not large around the hip or bum area so maybe that has helped? If you love your old troggins then give these a try?

My troggings, size 8 and navy are a perfect fit. Like the narrower leg. They are not too short in the crotch!
I wasn’t sure whether to order these trousers due to the many negative reviews. However the size 10 short leg version are a perfect fit and I love that they sit just below the waist - I cannot stand things around my waist! The leg width is also perfect, cannot stand baggy trousers! They are so soft and comfy, I can’t wait to try them out in the rain.
Bought my normal size 10 but had to return them, very jodhpur like at hips. Ordered an 8 but they will be going back as crotch to waist isn't comfortable, sits below natural waist. Loved the cut and fabric just not comfortable sitting below natural waist.
Love the fit and style of these trousers. They are so comfortable .
I’ve just received my troggings in the post and ‘really’ want to keep them, but back they’ll have to go !
They are great walking trousers and fit brilliantly ...... apart from the fact that the waist to crotch length is too short on me ....... and I’m only 5’ 2” in height !!
I’m a size 10 - the length is perfect and I love the tapered leg but as several other reviewers have mentioned, the waist does not sit on the ‘natural waist line’.
I think that the design department at Rohan will have to look at this design again.
I have had troggings in the past and found them versatile and smart. Since the change in style I haven't bought any more because the fit is wrong and the tapered leg doesn't look as good. Please bring back the earlier version which was so comfortable and practical and looked so much better on.
I have been buying a pair of these every year and they have been my go-to trousers for pretty well every purpose. Suddenly they have changed so much that they really shouldn't be using the same name. The rise is so short that I wondered whether someone on the design team had developed a nostalgic yearning for hipsters. Please could we have the real item back?
I was unsure whether to buy these as quite a few poor reviews. Took advantage of the special offer. I like narrower leg/ankle fit BUT they fit really badly around the waist/hip area - as others have said they are too short in the crotch to waist so they don’t fit naturally on the waist - if I pull them up they are too tight in the crotch, if I let them fit naturally (but not comfortably) below my waist there is excess material in the crotch area. It’s a shame as the idea is so good and I was hopeful of finding my daily go to winter trousers. I had also liked the idea of the narrower leg as personally I find Rohan trousers too wide at the ankle - these would be great for wearing with trainers but sadly won’t be keeping them. 😔
Too narrow in the leg especially if wearing boots
I have been through numerous pairs of troggings over the years, they are perfect for winter wear and I bought all colours. My first pair were slightly boot cut and I do miss that style..Due to lock down weight loss wardrobe clear out I needed a new pair and reading reviews I was dubious, so wanted to see them in a shop and rang my local store (Durham) and got a pair put by. I was grateful for help over the phone on size and I was more than pleased to find they were £20 less when I got there! Could not try them on until I got home but really pleased with fit despite narrow bottoms (I find it is the current style for all trousers!). Will now next pair online.
I was apprehensive about these after reading so many negative reviews.BUT once I put them on I really did not want to take them off.Very comfortable and a good price with the offer. They hang well over boots and look smartish for everyday wear.Brilliant on my first 5 mile walk.
Only niggle is they are a bit jodphur like over the thighs so only got 4 stars. Will certainly consider another pair..
This is my third pair of troggings and I love them but these are different. The cut is much more narrow whereas the old style was boot cut and looser, the drawstring is inside and a different colour and the material feels thinner. If I hadn't been able to reduce the purchase price using the recent discount I'd be sending them back. It's not that I don't like them or that they don't fit. they are just not Troggings and so not what I expected, but good value for the reduced price so I am keeping them
I have a pair of Troggings purchased a few years ago and they are perfect so I decided to buy a second pair. What a disappointment! They no longer fit on my natural waist, the legs are cut much narrower and fabric has changed so that they feel unpleasantly clingy. I will be returning them.
These should be a comfort fit but just like the Hometown trousers there is not enough material to allow for comfort sitting down - they pull down at the back and aren’t very comfortable. As others mentioned it feels like there isn’t enough material between the waist and the crotch. The old style are really snuggly and comfortable but I think these will be returned because they will not be the cosy relaxation trouser I was expecting.
I want to add my comments concerning a change in fit and quality in recent years. My only good pair from 3 or so years ago will wear out one day and I am sad that the rise was changed - not so comfortable. Also the material became thinner - don't hang as well. The original ones were substantial enough to stay straight on the leg and warmer too. It is very disappointing.
I wear my Troggings all winter, I have both the older and current styles. The original shape was much better, it’s very disappointing you found the need to tweak.
This the fouth year I have worn my original pair of troggings . They have been my favourite winter walking trousers ever.
Recently retired I am wearing them daily for Dog walking so decided to treat myself to a second pair, how disappointing they are.
The fit felt so different I have measured both pairs, the newer being reduced in waist height( by 3cm), wider in the hip and thigh(2.5 cm each side), narrower in the knee(2cm) and tapering down to the narrower hem (5cm). Also the inside leg length is reduced by 5 cm ! I am 5'11 size 12, and need the length which Rohan has always been good with.
The collective affect has been to change the to look and feel. They feel like a trackster and have lost the stylish flattering affect. They do fall over the boots as before.
Practically, when wearing, the narrower calf hugs and pulls against the leg when walking, pulling the trouser down as the thigh and hip fit is looser. I was having to pull up the trousers, finally tightening the waist string tighter than was comfortable.
Luckily I bought these in the sale so shall just wear them but will not be purchasing them again, such a shame. They certainly are not worth the full price tag !
Why have Rohan changed the fit when there are so many previously happy customers ?
New customers to troggings will not realise the difference, but they were better before.
Perhaps as another disappointed customer commented .....Rohan hopefully will take notice of the reviews.
If this happens I would be more than happy to buy, but will be looking at other makes now.
Happy walking everyone, thanks for reading this, hope it was helpful.
I’ve had at least 4 pairs of troggings over the years and the first one was a perfect fit and I loved them. Unfortunately the material and fit has changed over the years. The latest pair are far too tapered to the ankles. Each new pair I buy are not nearly as comfortable as the one before!
This is my first pair of troggings and I like them a lot. Easy to wear with a drawstring waist , a warm lining and the usual Rohan pockets.
I'm 5'4'' and found the short length fits well.
Very comfortable and not at all restrictive, I have 2 pairs and wear them alternately most days. Slight accident in the garden yesterday but the blood has completely gone after washing and they are as god as new. No hassle at all to wash or dry.
This is my third pair of troggings trousers. My first pairs are so comfortable and smart, so I decided to buy another pair. But sadly the current poor quality of the material and reduced length from crotch to waist makes them neither smart nor comfortable. They will be returned. I notice that I am not the first customer to complain so I do hope that Rohen take notice for the future.
I haven't bought from Rohan before but I saw these advertised in Rambler magazine (with a discount) and as they come in a long length, thought I would give them a try. I'm so pleased I ignored previous reviews as these are really comfortable, with a warm fleecy lining and fit me pretty well (they are a little on the large side and not super flattering but for walking they're great) They're not windproof but water just runs off them. I may have to get another pair as I can imagine I will be wearing these not just for walking throughout the winter.
I'm so glad I didn't take notice of the previous reviews as these are the best & most comfortable walking trousers I have ever worn. Very stylish too. The lining is so soft & cosy but not too warm for winter walks. Waterproof trousers were not required yesterday for the light rain which just beaded.
At least three other walking group companions are ordering after seeing them yesterday!
This is my fourth pair of troggings and I am sorry to find that the cut has changed. They are baggy around the tummy (I wondered at first if I had them on back to front), and, more significantly, they are shorter from crotch to waist. They are not as smart, and not as comfortable. What a pity. I’ll continue to wear them as they are still the best option for casual trousers for winter, but I am disappointed.
I've loved Troggings trousers so much in the past - smart but practical, warm and comfy.
But the current ones are in a horrible shiny fabric which looks cheap and nasty. The fitting has also changed so that they are baggy around the hips and narrow at ankles. They no longer fit me.
What a shame!
I have only recently started buying Rohan because they do a long length for women and they are long enough from the waist to the crotch area.
Over the years I have tried various different walking companies for ladies trousers and none of em were long enough. I’ve ended up taking them down or even worn men’s. The problem with this is that they don't fit properly around the waist and when out walking you want to look and feel comfy.
The Troggings long length are perfect and very comfortable a bit like wearing fleecy Pajama’s.
Very impressed.
Product description states these are straight legged but they are presenting from just above the knee down as a tapered leg and narrower than the previous style with the drawstring inside the waist band. This means they snag at the boot top so don't slide smoothly over the knee nor do they drop back down over the boot again. For active use they need to glide easily. Certainly don't want them flappy but please don't pander to the current high street trend of tight fitting trousers. However, they are a good cooler weather trouser, not windproof but comfy under waterproofs. Keep their shape and colour well, easy to launder. Have been wearing Rohan garments since the early years.
