Waterproof, windproof and breathable, the perfect, packable wet-weather travel jacket.Read more…
If a bracing walk along the beach sounds likes your perfect Sunday morning, the Vapour Trail Jacket might be just the thing you're looking for.
From the outside, it may appear to be a simple, elemental waterproof jacket but don't be deceived, it comes fully equipped with the same thoughtful technology found in our higher-specification equipment.
Totally waterproof yet phenomenally breathable, the internal Barricade™ membrane technology actually responds to humidity. In other words the harder you work, the more it breathes.
It's manufactured using a 2.5 layer construction - this means that the protective lining is actually printed directly onto the inside of the membrane, which helps to cut down the weight. It also reduces bulk, so it’ll pack down nice and small into its own integral Packpocket™.
Two external zipped security pockets and an adjustable hood complete the picture and of course the renowned Rohan durability and quality are built-in as standard.
Wear it with one of our technical fleeces and you'll have the perfect combination for a coastal adventure.
Our barricade™ waterproof technology achieves an initial Hydrostatic Head (waterproofness rating) of 20,000 and a Moisture Vapour Transmission rating for breathability of 20,000 g/m2/24h - a very balanced position.
A further Durable Water Repellency™ finish boosts water repellency of the fabric surface and maintains 80% of its effectiveness after twenty washes.
A perfect fabric for an all-round leisure jacket or one for gentle low level walking.
The water repellent face fabric and the waterproof-breathable membrane are bonded together. A partial print is applied to the inside face of the fabric to protect the waterproof membrane.
Caring for your Rohan Barricade™ waterproof will improve its performance and longevity. Simply machine wash your item at 30C with a gentle non-biological, liquid detergent. We recommend a second rinse to remove all traces of detergent from the fabric. Don’t use fabric conditioners, dryer sheets, stain removers or bleaching agents as these can impair the fabric performance. Garments may be drip dried. To rejuvenate the finish tumble dry your waterproof on the coolest setting, ensuring it is fully dry to complete the process.
Your Barricade™ waterproof has a Durable Water Repellency finish on the surface of the fabric. Over time, with wear and exposure to the environment, this can degrade, stopping water beading up on the surface of the jacket. Cleaning your waterproof will help maintain the finish. If necessary a re-proofing product, such as Rohan Proofer Wash In, may be used to restore the DWR. This can be used in your wash cycle and is activated by a cool tumble dry.
100% polyester with waterproof Barricade™ membrane technology.

Cutting down windchill can make more difference to your comfort and safety than the amount of insulation you are wearing. We offer two ratings according to use: Windproof and Highly Wind Resistant.
Wet clothing transmits body heat nearly twenty-five times faster than dry. All clothing with this symbol is guaranteed to be totally waterproof. And highly breathable membrane technology means that you won’t get wet from inside either.
Pocket science at Rohan is all about precision and detail of design, but most of all, it’s about keeping your most important stuff safe at times when losing keys, passports and wallet is more than just an inconvenience. We use several different methods – whichever is the most appropriate. Some pockets are completely hidden with micro zips, some are touch and close with roll-over tops and some are high quality zips.
Good design is more often about what to take off than what to put on. And clever design is about giving one feature two functions, that’s why many Rohan garments feature an internal mesh stretch pocket that doubles as a Packpocket™ for easy storage.
Conventional waterproof fabrics cannot adapt to the changing weather outside and the changing micro-climate inside. Barricade™ is different, it is dynamic and responds to your body temperature and the humidity of the surrounding environment. The sweatier and steamier things get inside, the better the membrane works and the more vapour escapes.
Our durable water resistant finish, which forces water droplets to ‘bead up’ and run off the outside of the jacket, is designed to remain at 80% efficiency – even after 20 washes.
We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.
Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.
All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

I've known about Rohan for many years. My Mum was wearing Rohan bags and various other pieces of essential kit probably 30 years ago. I've never actually bought anything - just been handed down bits and pieces. Having been searching for getting on for 10 years for a really good lightweight waterproof jacket for cycling, I landed on the Vapour Trail. I couldn't afford the Elite, which had been recommended by my step-dad, but I thought it was worth giving the Vapour Trail a go.
The fit is ideal - I bought a Small. I'm generally a size 12 top half and there is comfortable space for an extra layer. The long back is perfect for cycling. The jacket got a few gentle tests within the first month or so and stood up to those - I was dry and not wet from the inside, which is often the case with cycling jackets. I then took the jacket with me on holiday to the Isle of Wight last week - where we spent most of our time being battered by 40 mph winds and regular showers. Again, the Vapour Trail held its own. The real test has come this week, prompting this review. I had to wash the jacket after the holiday - to remove the camp stove smell. We don't have a tumble dryer, so I followed the cool iron instructions - I'm always wary of how good a jacket is until it's been washed, but two nights in a row, my commute home has been in absolutely torrential rain. My journey is over an hour (more when the rain is so bad I have to slow down) and last night I got a puncture, so as well as the ride, I was standing in a downpour for nearly an hour. From the waist down, I was absolutely soaked through. Top half - including my hair (other than the bit of my fringe that was sticking out from the hood - was completely dry!! This is an absolute revelation. The jacket also dries quickly and the hood can be tightened so that it doesn't move with your head - essential for when cycling!
I have only one small criticism - the jacket would be improved with a 2 way zip.
Thank you Rohan - you have produced the Holy Grail - a truly waterproof, breathable and lightweight jacket!
