I would really like to recommend visiting the Red Rock Country around Sedona in Arizona USA. My husband and I travelled there in November 2015, which was the perfect time of year for people who would find the summer heat unbearable.
We did get frosts at night and there was a touch of snow which was pretty amazing when you consider that some parts of this area counts as desert.
The whole area is full of amazing walks and trails.
We spent a fortnight in the area and had planned to travel and explore other states, but found there was so much variety of scenery, great walks, birdlife, rock formations and fauna to see we did not venture much further.
Sedona is a city set in the Red Rock Country at the bottom of Oak Creek Canyon, 62 classic westerns were filmed in and around Sedona - as soon as you arrive you will recognise the classic rock formations.
Packing wise, I was really pleased I took my Rohan Pilkington hat as during the day the sun was quite strong and the brim kept me from getting a burnt neck! I wish I had taken better gloves though as the evenings were quite chilly.
The highlight of the week was a walk to the Boynton Canyon, the reflections at the end were just fabulous
