Our Gift Your Gear initiative allows us to support a large range of charities, community organisations and youth groups across the country. Donating your pre-loved, useable outdoor kit enables as many people as possible to enjoy the outdoors as much as you do.

One of the charities that have benefited from the pre-loved kit you donated is The Essex Boys and Girls Clubs, whose goal is to further the development and education of boys, girls, young men, and young women through various challenging activities in the outdoors. This is so that they can achieve their physical and mental potential as individuals.

For over 80 years, they have given young people in and around Essex and London the opportunity to take part in life changing activities to help them to discover their full potential. Working with over 130 Youth and Sports Clubs around Essex and London, they host a wide range of events and activities for young people to get involved in, ranging from national sports events to residentials at their centres in the Lake District and Brecon Beacons or at a visit to their Essex centre in the grounds of Layer Marney Tower, Tiptree.

Their aim is to take young people out of their normal environments and offer them experiences that they often will never have had in their life before, like going on mountain walks, scrambles, multi-day expeditions or canoe trips down the Wye. At every opportunity, they aim to get young people to experience the thrill of the outdoors and create memories that they will have for life.

With the help of Gift your Gear, these young people can participate in all the fun outdoor activities available, even when they don’t arrive with the correct kit at the start of the day. For some support at home is limited and specialist outdoor equipment is financially out of reach for the participants, the donations received are so helpful to breaking down that barrier to them experiencing the outdoors. It’s great to see the outdoor clothing getting a second lease of life and being used for the purpose they were designed for, rather than ending up in landfill. In addition to this, at the Essex Boys and Girls Clubs, anything borrowed for the activity goes home with the young person, which is something they’re always very excited to find out about after their day of adventuring or residential trip.
