At Rohan, we firmly believe that the outdoors should be accessible to everyone of all ages and backgrounds. This is particularly true for the younger generations – especially primary school-age children. Studies have shown that time spent outside is highly beneficial for early development and can have a significant impact on the overall well-being of children.

It’s for this reason that we’re excited to announce that we’re partnering with The Outdoor Guide Foundation. This charitable organisation founded by TV Presenter and walking guru Julia Bradbury and her sister Gina Bradbury-Fox, is doing fantastic work to help raise awareness of the importance of giving children access to the outdoors. Through their Waterproofs and Wellies campaign, they are striving to provide every single state primary school in the UK with Wellington boots, a hooded waterproof jacket, and waterproof trousers. They have recently started working with children’s TV star Gemma Hunt who has helped to personally deliver some of the first sets of outdoor clothing to schools in need.

A troubling statistic

Did you know that nearly a third of children in state-funded primary schools are living below the poverty line? Many of these children simply do not have access to the necessary opportunities and wet weather clothing to facilitate them getting outdoors as often as they should.

In a world that often feels disconnected from nature, organizations like The Outdoor Guide Foundation are playing a vital role in reconnecting people with the great outdoors. Committed to enhancing education by facilitating access to the outdoors, the Outdoor Guide Foundation strives to ensure that no child is limited by the clothes they wear.

“We are so grateful to be chosen as a school to receive a donation of wellies and waterproofs. Our school is in an area where the children do not have access to a garden so their time spent outside is very limited unless they are at school. Having the wellies and waterproofs has enabled us to offer the children the chance to experience every season, come rain or shine. The donation has made a huge difference to their education as well as social experiences. “

A cause worth committing to

So far, they have raised over £90,000 for the cause and have managed to deliver more than 3,000 wet weather kits to primary schools around the country. This incredible achievement has undoubtedly provided thousands of children with opportunities that they did not previously have access to, but their work isn’t done yet. Their mission to get 10 sets of wellies and waterproofs to every single state primary school in the United Kingdom is well underway, but to accomplish their goal they need to deliver 20,000 kits in total!

While their achievements are substantial, they still have a lot of work to do before they meet their goal. To give every child the opportunity to fall in love with the outdoors, they need your help. For just £30, you can send one complete wet weather kit to a school and help to ensure that no child gets left behind. To fully equip a school with 10 wet weather kits costs just £300 and could change the lives of children who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to enjoy the outdoor world.
