Local Knowledge
Long Preston is a small scenic village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales in which our shop is situated, opposite the Maypole Green which is famous for the May Day dancing each year. There are two pubs in the village - The Maypole & The Boar’s Head, as well as a fantastic local shop and Post Office which offers a takeaway sandwich service.
There are several walks from the village varying in distance which staff members will be more than happy to give directions for. Beyond the village a short drive away is the picturesque village of Malham, known for its wide variety of walks including Janet’s Foss, Gordale Scar, Malham Cove and Malham Tarn. However, if you’re after more of a challenge why not try the Yorkshire 3 Peaks which begins close by in Horton, Ribblesdale.
For a more relaxing day out, head to the historical market town of Settle, just five minutes away, which has an array of shops, cafes, pubs and scenic strolls including a great loop around Warrendale Knotts passing Attermire Scar and Victoria Cave. A great option would be to walk over the tops to Feizor, taking in views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks and stopping off at Elaine's Tea Rooms for amazing food! Another 'must do' in Settle would be a visit to The Folly, a historic Grade 1 listed building, incorporating a museum and The Folly Coffee House, offering delicious food and drink.
