Local Knowledge
There’s plenty of museums, art galleries and theatres including the Great North Museum: Hancock, the Laing Art Gallery and the Theatre Royal (described by Sir Ian McKellen as one of his favourites!) Then there’s the must-see St Nicholas Cathedral – built during the 1000s, this ancient building offers a rich array of history and spectacular views of the city.
For a tranquil and memorable experience, head to Jesmond Dene – a narrow wooded valley acquired during the 1850s which offers visitors a different side to Newcastle with a generous variety of wildlife. Admission is free, too.
