I first came across Rohan clothing when I was 18 in 1984. I got a Rohan “Technical Jumper” for my 18th birthday present – it was brilliant and a constant companion when I did all my outdoor activities and adventures. This included trips to the wild parts of the UK (Lakes, Dartmoor, Snowdonia, Scotland), numerous Karrimor and Saunders Mountain Marathons, backpacking in the Alps and along the Pyrenean High Route, living in New Zealand for 3 years… Generally just a great bit of kit.
I finally retired it when I became not as slim as used to be but could not face throwing it out so I stored it away in my cupboard.
Many years later, my daughter was packing for her DofE trip and needed a lightweight and warm layer – to my surprise she was delighted when I offered up my Rohan jumper from the back of the cupboard.
She has now completed her Bronze and Silver DofE trips and has just come back from her gap year trip to South America. Her Rohan jumper is now her constant travelling companion.
The attached picture is of me in 1985 wearing my jacket in the Lakes (which I came across when looking for some photos for my 50th celebrations) and of Ella in Machu Picchu aged 19 wearing the same Rohan jumper – 31 years later.
What a bit of kit.
Duncan and Ella’s Olfio is a classic Mark 1 version without the front zipped pockets and pen slots.
